| Newbie | I finally got the chance to see Reach For Me last night. Gotta say... Nice film! A few laughs, a serious lesson or two, and Chabert was AWESOME! Far better than the bigger budget Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. It starts slow, of course, but once it picks up it's easy to follow. One can predict what will happen almost at all times. No real plot twists. Just a straight forward storytelling. None of that detracts from the enjoyment. Although not for the Action-oriented crowd, it's a nice change of pace from recent shoot 'em up and/or highly intense films Gomorrah has offered for our escapist pleasures. Chabert's character is reminiscent of the one she played in Hometown Legend, without the religious overtones. Two things of note: Chabert has indeed kept up her musical skills. There is a part where she plays the guitar. No kidding. I have no idea if she was actually playing, but it sure looked like it. At the very least she knows damn well how to play the chords...along with coordination of the strumming hand. She DID sing, though. I'm a HUGE music fan and a believer that a singer can make or break a song even if the rest of the band sucks. I have a high standard (which is why I usually despise modern "pop" stars who generally use Autotune to stay on tune even in the studio). Chabert's style seems to have changed a bit FROM her earlier training on Broadway (where they kinda yell the melody...) TO something that I would love to hear putting me to sleep. My jaw actually dropped. I recognized her voice, but had doubts anyway. I waited through the credits until confirmed - she did indeed sing that song. DAMN! Whatever man ends up with her will hopefully appreciate music enough to know her talent there. Her future children will NOT have to suffer through ear splitting vocal trashing of a beloved lullaby. Really, the kid has serious talent. She really should record an album. The film is worth seeing just for that, frankly. She's really that good. And if she can play that axe as well (her fingers ARE long enough), well... That's just damn sexy. See it, then comment. |

| Moderator ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I just watched Reach For Me. How very sad film! I had no idea what it was about or what to expect going into it. It was good though. Also, you are very right about the singing! She did very well, I enjoyed that scene a lot. And I'm pretty she did at least strum those first three chords that they show her play on the guitar, but the rest of the song I'm too sure about lol |
