Default What if God Were the Sun?

Overall it has been a not bad movie. Lifetime movies typically end up with the guy beating the woman, or cheating on the woman, or doing any other host of things to advance the message: "woman good man bad." I guess they do that because of women's own general world view, but I digress.

That said, I'm a sucker for emo films when it comes to spirituality. Personally, I'm not sure about John Edwards, and this movie doesn't seem to follow the plot of his book by the same name. In the book the main character is a man; Lifetime's artistic license with the movie I guess. I think the title is interesting too because G.K. Chesterton, a famous Christian apologist, once said "God is like the sun; you cannot look at it, but without it, you cannot look at anything else." There is a connection made by a dialogue between Lacey and Gena Rowlands where they ponder "the light" and where it is during our darkest hours.

Anyway, Lacey plays a nurse with lots of emotions and little in the way of expressing or dealing with them after her father dies. A terminally ill patient, after checking herself out of the hospital, requests Lacey's character, Janie, as her caretaker and teary-eyed emotion commences. I think Lacey's acting is ironically better when not doing sad scenes with the exception of the scene where she plays the part of Donnie to a blind woman just before she dies.

"Janie's" fiance was looking for her and described her as "very pretty, brown hair with a pony tail." How apt.

Thumbs down Not to be a jerk but.....

u guys didn't miss much...yes Lacey was good as was Gena Rowlands but even they couldn't make this movie worth watching more than once...and it was even hard to stay interested in it for that long..not terrible film but definitely not good either. Just my opinion and i am huge Chabert fan ever since 1994 and PO5.

yeah. Mikey's right. as I said, a "not bad" movie but I probably won't be getting it on DVD if it comes out.

I will certainly NOT be watching this; anything to do with 'God', 'religion' 'faith' etc. just sends me into suicidal frenzy. Plus I think Chabert, like all Christians, is an empty hypocrite (especially after her sleaze shoot for Maxim) like Jesus himself (a Jewish Charles Manson/David Koresh), I'd better stop before I type something I may, or may not, regret.

God, if he exists, will get nothing from me but distrust and hate. (thinks getting himself nailed to a piece of wood solves anything?!)

Because I was BORN negative with autism; I am not alive, just in pain. Death and Oblivion following are my only comforts.

And please don't call me an 'Emo' (I despise the word)

I think the point of this movie was specifically that it talks about people who have pain in their lives. But one can only convey the message. It's up to an individual to either accept or reject it and live (and die) with the consequences of either decision. Perhaps that was the greater moral of the story.

sure sounds emo but hey you're the one that brought it up first. i don't think anyone would have even said emo if you hadn't brought it up at all.

I recorded it (I had to watch Heroes, sorry ).

I'm going to watch it this weekend. I hate that con-artist John Edwards and I'm not expecting much, but I'll watch Lacey in anything.

Ok I just watched the movie. I thought it was "ok" but much like earlier comments made here on the thread, I probably wouldn't buy this on DVD or go for a second viewing.

That isn't to say that Lacey's performance wasn't good. I thought Lacey did a great job especially the scene where she played the part of the blind woman's brother, Lacey crying just killed me lol

I thought Hello Sister, Goodbye Life was a better "family" film.

Oh and Lacey in the red dress was absolutely beautiful.
