| Because I believe this is KK main issue I have to bring up another example.Michelle Branch, who's part asian as well.Is that the first thing I think of when I hear about this person? No, because she doesn't make it a problem for herself. She doesn't saythat she think it's hard, she simply states she's proud of her ethnicity.Apparently she doesn't have to take a huge part of her away because she's afraid people won't "see beyond that and her individual".And guess what the girl is above TALENTED-nr1thing you think of!Don't give into racism- who chose to only see your ethnicity and nothing else. You shouldn't have to repress your ethnicity only cause you're afraid and then let the racism win.If you already are and know you're a great individual people won't have any problem seeing beyond whatever outside. Instead turn it around, embrace all your colours together and shine. KK doesn't, so I'm afraid therefore she'll only be remembered as the half asian on sv, with little if any talent. sorry.. |

| moderator ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Just because KK isn't all woohoo Asian/Dutch pride (which, by the way, Michelle B isn't either) doesn't mean she's not proud of who she is or where her roots come from. She has never denounced her heritage, just said that she doesn't believe that sort of thing matters, and it shouldn't. I was in Staples today picking up a new DVD burner because I broke my other one last week and I asked the guy helping me if he knew where the nearby Starbucks was. His answer? "Starbucks? Nah, don't go there. I went in there one day and all they did was give me strange looks." My answer? I gave him a strange look. Then I asked him why. You want to know what he said? He tried to tell me that they gave him strange looks because he was black. I was taken aback that he would even joke about something like that. Sure, he was black, but I've been in plenty of Starbucks with plenty different ethnicities around me and have never seen anyone treated as any different of a customer because of their color. And I was right, because then he went on to say that he didn't go in line but rather just sat down at one of their tables and waited for someone to help him or ask why he was there. You can't say anything that wouldn't convince me that's not just someone looking for a reason to pull a racial card. I believe that's exactly what you're doing here, trying to make an issue and create something out of absolutely nothing. It makes me want to scream at you to sit down and shut up. You're like that annoying kid in class who tries to debate everything the teacher says just because YOU ARE THAT BORED. |

| I DON'T KNOW why you're so obsessed with "asian pride" whenever I mention her ethnicity.Never said Michelle Branch screams"asian pride"or anything either, the difference is that she simply STATES THAT SHE'S PROUD of her roots, that does nothing more or less than convince people she's proud of who she is as well.Because one way or another those two makes one,and are highly connected.I've stated before why I think it matters..but it's not about bringing it to that level where you think of nothing else,it's about the balance. What KK fails to understand is that stating the things the way she does only proves she's a victim of racism.Where she has to pull 'that part' away because society only sees her ethnicity first. And cause she doesn't want that she says it shouldn't matter. When in reality it does, just look at her roles.Look at the world. You should be able to be whatever you are or want asmuch as you want, show it to the world and make it more beautiful. The problem is that it won't let you. |

Laurel Yeung was Asian, Lana Lang is Caucasian, Fiona was a Sex Pot, Naseem was an Indian, and Snow White is a Disney Princess. She plays the roles that she plays because she is an actress and that's what acting is about -- being somebody you're not. John Travolta is playing a woman in Hairspray, so does that mean he's not proud of being a man? Two Wayans played WHITE GIRLS -- does that mean they are denouncing male African Americans? Alyson Hannigan played a fat chick -- does that mean she hates the fact that she's skinny? What about all the gay men in Hollywood who portray straight roles? Acting is just entertainment for we the people who have no right to look into an actor's life and judge them on the way they live. The paparazzi and tabloids have given us too much insight on the way celebrities live their lives. Michelle Branch is also a hypocrite if you want to talk technicalities here. She's said many times that her label used to make her sing the music she sang because they knew it would sell records. She's a sell out and yet you laudibly applaud her morals. Let he who is free of sin cast the first stone. You have no place here trying to pick apart any celebrity's private life. |

| I was just trying to bring up another example like with Erica. To illustrate and make you try understand my point. I'm not going to do that again, cause it'll only result in you attacking me and 'my examples' even more.. lol. I admire Michelle Branch, being known first and foremost for her talent and music, and on top of that she's not even ashamed of her roots!! Hands down and for more success and grammys to come! Open32, I'm not on Michelles forum obsessed with her race am I? No actually KK doesn't contradict herself when she states she's ashamed of her ethnicity. What I meant wasthat snow white doesn't look like britney, KKs ethnicity helps her get roles, and she says it doesn't matter.Just a reality check. Acting reflects what you already are in many ways.If we can't judge them on that,it won't improve and what they do will have no use what so ever.Criticizing and analyzing is how the world changes and moves.Might be hard for you to see right now,but I'm only trying to help her. |

| moderator ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If Kristin's ethinicity helped her get roles, she wouldn't have been so openly criticized by critics for being cast in Partition. They also cast her in Smallville because of her instant chemistry with Tom. Show me a quote that says she hates her heritage and I'll believe you. Topic closed; you've been proven wrong again. |
