Thread clarification

Can the mod's please clarify the thread goals for us all?

I know in the past the complaints were we were going off into Superman etc. tangents and thus the threads were being closed. Now, we are sticking to Alba discussions solely, perhaps not solely directed at the main thread titles, but they're still getting closed. I was under the impression that as long as we stayed Alba-oriented in our discussions we were cool.

Is there a problem out there w/that now? Some of these that are getting closed are just starting to grow Alba fruit amongst the members IMO. Your guidance is appreciated. Trying to keep in the rules while boosting creativity around here is all...

there closing the ones that are about to have fights started or if another member says something negative about another.

As long as we stay on topic and avoid confrontation, I don't see why the mods should close the threads.

Some examples of which closed threads are confusing are in order here.

Long version: You did mention straying from the main thread titles and I've personally been lenient about it if it's just a quick mention of something but if it continues, it does not belong in that thread. People just pile on the responses and it just gets completely lost. We were also seeing 4 or 5 threads per day being inundated with thoughtless chatter going back and forth - "new replies". Really - nobody was interested in that. If it's related to Alba, but not to that topic, start a new topic - be creative there. I'm sure people would rather see more new topics than old threads being bumped with chatter.

Short version: ie. someone clicks on The Eye thread looking for information... gets the initial stuff. Next day more responses are posted and they think there's new info... off-topic responses instead. We're just cleaning up the threads.

So, you'd rather have a new thread every day on offshoots of the main thread than just continue on about her in reference to the main thread? So, for instance, you'd rather have a topic of "Jessica's Strengths" as opposed to how she'll bring those strengths to the project in another thread? To me, that would seem more confusing than what you're referencing here as you'd see a debate about her strengths in 40 different projects as opposed to how she'll look in The Eye, for instance. But, I'll at least try to maintain what you're looking for, I guess.

An even better question would be "How do we stay on topic in THIS particular thread!!! LOL!!!

^ yes, there's an argument for either way - undoubtedly - but in my opinion (yes, just mine at least), it is more beneficial to the forum to discuss it in such a manner rather than have a "strengths/weaknesses" discussion within a "check out these F4 set pics" thread. Not only is it difficult (impossible) to find after a couple days of not following that conversation, it completely detracts away from the original thread's intention. In your new thread, feel free to link to the thread that lead you to start the new thread for background's sake. People do that on forums all the time. Also, if you were the original poster of the thread, you wouldn't want it to be hijacked.

All you get is a forum full of discussion (sometimes not even Alba related) with thread titles that mean nothing... which is what we were approaching for awhile. Be assured I wasn't the only one who saw it.

i have no prob staying on topic most of the time.

I don't have a problem with staying on topic either but from time to time I like to try and add a little pizaz to a topic. It might mean straying away for a post or two but I can get back on point. Also I'd rather see a thread just get closed straight up than get warnings for being off topic. Like I've said before there is only so much you can talk about in one thread before it turns into repeating the same things over and over.

Then why not let a thread die on its own ? Why the need for a moderator to have to babysit them ? You guys know the rules and what's acceptable and not already. There IS an off-topic forum if you want to raise your postcount.

Honestly I do try to let threads die. But I will admit if someone brings up a good point that I could respond to then I try to.
