Time to Eye off Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba is in talks to play the lead – originally intended for Renee Zellweger, who was attached to the project when it was at Paramount – in “The Eye”, which Lionsgate have picked up.

The movie, a remake of the Honk Kong horror hit from the Pang Bros, was originally set to go at Paramount. When Zellweger got cold-feet (probably wasn’t a starbucks near the filming locale, or something), the studio lost interest in the movie and threw it curbside.

Now, according to Variety, Lionsgate adopted the redo and have tapped French helmers David Moreau and Xavier Palud to direct. Should she agree to do it, Alba would start the film as soon as she wraps work on “The Fantastic Four and. The Silver Surfer”.

In “The Eye”, Alba would play a blind girl who gets a cornea transplant so that she would be able to see again. However, she got more than what she bargained for when she realised she could even see ghosts. Unlike the ones Missy Love Hewitt encounters in “Ghost Whisperer”, these ones are darn unfriendly.

Lionsgate is picking up Cruise/Wagner-produced remake The Eye out of turnaround from Paramount and is in talks with Jessica Alba to star and French helmers David Moreau and Xavier Palud to direct. Variety says the film will shoot this winter.

The Eye is a thriller about a cornea transplant recipient who sees disturbing images in the mirror that send her on a quest to find out what happened to the eye's previous owner. The original was made in Hong Kong by Thai directing brothers Danny and Oxide Pang.

Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner persuaded Paramount to buy the remake rights in 2002 and got close to making it there with Renée Zellweger. When Zellweger dropped out, the project lost its momentum and the studio put it into turnaround.

Alba is in talks to make The Eye her next picture after the Fantastic Four sequel. Moreau and Palud, who last directed the French thriller Ils, will make The Eye their first U.S. picture.

Busy, busy, busy.....the lady likes to work!
Good for her! Have a feeling this could do well with
her in the lead role. With the wide range of movies shes
doing, it would be awful hard to stereotype her to any
type of role. For those that don't already know, they'll
find out what eveyone on this board already knows....
she IS a very good actress.

I saw the Original "The Eye" on IFC a couple of days ago. It would be really interesting to see Jessica play the lead role.

They better not change the ending in the remake if Jessica does take the role.

No, she doesn't die. She becomes blind again(I won't say how; go watch the original to find out) & they show her walking down the street wearing her shades & using her cane like she was in the beginning of the film & then once she clears the frame they fade to black & roll credits.

Remakes did fairly well so far. Hopefully this one will live up to its expectations.

It's about the same as "The Ring" movie except the ending is really cool. I saw "Ringu" before ever seeing "The Ring" & everything they did in "The Ring" is exactly the same way in "Ringu" so hopefully they'll do that with "The Eye" too.

I thought the first was okay but the american grudge version was meh. but i hope this is good though.

Yeeesssssssss!!! I was hoping one of my girls, either Eliza Dushku or Jess'd get this movie, knowing it'd hit the states like all the other Asian horror movies of late. It was a GREAT movie. See the original on DVD, it rocks! I saw the sequel and it wasn't quite as good but Jess'd be great in this. Definitely something to prove her acting skills beyond the scream queen needs of it as the main character deals not only w/the ghosts but the transition to seeing again.

Hey man, go see the Asian version like Rebelman and I have said. It's a great thriller. She's definitely someone you can easily root for on the sympathy card factor too which this role will provide.

I don't know about the rental places but Netflix has them both and it's cheaper than renting if you rent lots of movies per month so sign up if it suits you.
