The DARK ANGEL stunner admits she used to be heavily into religion during her teenage years, although her life is no longer so "regimented". Jessica, 21, says, "The boyfriend was a born-again Christian. I was, too, kind of, from 12 to 16. Very regimented and internal and deep. "I went to church three times a week. If I stubbed my toe, I would say, 'Oh, darn.' Born-agains take themselves very seriously. "Everybody still laughs about it. My grandmother found my boyfriend and his best friend in my closet praying, and she called them the closet boys. Weird." http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlf...256DEE004CC539 Jessica Alba flows like 'Honey' 11/30/2003 11:29 PM BEVERLY HILLS Jessica Alba is a big fan of Flashdance, the glitzy 1983 movie that made Jennifer Beals a star when Alba was just a toddler. As a little girl, Alba used to put on leotards, watch music videos and movies like Flashdance and Saturday Night Fever on TV, and pretend she was a dancer. Now the former star of Fox's Dark Angel is getting a chance to show off her dance moves on screen in Honey, which opens Friday. Unlike Beals, who sat on the sidelines while a professional performed during Flashdance's dance scenes, Alba does almost all the dancing as hip-hop dancer Honey Daniels. "I never took any professional dancing (lessons), but I've been dancing since I was a little kid," says Alba, 22, over lunch at the Four Seasons. She says she hopes the dancing in Honey will make audiences get out of their seats and "just bust." Honey, which co-stars Mekhi Phifer (8 Mile, ER) and miniature hip-hop star Lil' Romeo, has the kind of help on and off screen to make that happen. In addition to cameos by such hip-hop/R&B stars as Missy Elliott, Ginuwine, 3rd Storee and Shawn Desman, the music-driven drama features a number of new songs. This is also the first feature film from music video director Billie Woodruff. "I was so lucky to have Jessica be the star of my first movie," he says. "She's magical when the camera turns on." Alba trained for three months before starting the film, taking a crash course in jazz and ballet and then hip-hop. "And then I had to start leading the dancers, and that was hard because the dancers do this for a living and I'm sitting here trying to get a move and keep up with them." Apparently, Alba kept up just fine. Only one of Honey's dance sequences, which included a triple pirouette, required a professional stand-in. Alba starts work soon on her next film, Into the Blue, which she describes as a remake of The Deep without the wet T-shirt. (She says she is not comfortable doing nudity on screen, though that mostly has to do with how her parents would react.) But don't look for Alba in another TV series anytime soon. For two seasons on Dark Angel she played Max, a genetically enhanced superhuman, a role that made her a star. She says she left the show disillusioned by the "lack of respect" network executives had for their own programming. During Dark Angel, she also became engaged to co-star Michael Weatherly, 35. They parted company three months ago, she says. "The relationship was just as difficult as any relationship," says Alba, who was unhappy with the way the writers incorporated their well-publicized real-life romance into the show. "I think they felt that they needed to write that part in, change the story, and make us have other love interests and make us act foolish. And it was so against our characters," she says. "It really felt like we lost a lot of integrity in the second season." http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/...ba-honey_x.htm |
