From iFMAGAZINE.com Breaking TCA 2009 News: THE SCOOP ON SEASON 6 OF 'MEDIUM' AND ITS MOVE FROM NBC TO CBS Allison Dubois will end up in the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD movie for a special Halloween episode By CARL CORTEZ, Contributing Editor Published 8/3/2009 LOCATION: Pasadena, CA THE SKINNY: While MEDIUM aired for five seasons on NBC, this Spring, after protracted negotiations, NBC cancelled the show and CBS picked it up. Of course, it was a no brainer, considering the show itself is produced and owned by CBS, which made the transition quite smooth according to creator Glenn Gordon Caron. “A number of people at CBS said [over the years] that would be a great show for us -- wouldn’t it be wonderful to be at CBS,’” says Caron speaking from today’s CBS TCA Press Tour. “When the negotiation for NBC for renewal went south, it’s been a possibility that’s always been out there.” The see-saw negotiations for MEDIUM was a big surprise for star Patricia Arquette as well. “At one point I had been told we were picked up, then I told we got dropped, then I got a job,” says Arquette. “’You’re hired, you’re fired, you’re hired.’” Of course Arquette is thrilled to be paired with THE GHOST WHISPERER on Friday nights and think the two supernatural-tinged series are a great fit. Caron also thinks this is a great pairing as well. “GHOST WHISPERER is a show people clearly like, given our history, it’s nice to follow a show people really like,” says Caron making a little jab at NBC’s history of giving MEDIUM less than stellar lead-ins. “GHOST WHISPERER is a very good show -- who wouldn’t want to follow that. It’s nice to be part of a night that clearly people like.” With MEDIUM’s Season 5 finale ending in Allison Dubois (Arquette) in a coma, Caron teases how the new season will pan out. “She comes out of the coma and she’s on a different – it’s the damnest thing,” says Caron dead-pan. While Caron is careful not to spoil too many plot points, he does say that Allison will be place (via computer trickery) into classic 1968 horror film NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD for one of her dream sequences in a special Halloween-themed episode. “We got the rights to the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and we’re going to be inserting Patricia into it,” says Caron. Caron is also quick to note that he’s still very grateful to NBC for keeping them on the air for five years. “There were times along the way, where everyone even inside NBC [went], ‘gee, if we gave show a little more attention, it might do better for us,’” says Caron. “I don’t think that’s been any great secret there. Having said that, we had five fairly fruitful years at NBC. The good news, we’re on CBS now. For the first time in three years. We’re doing 22 episodes, knowing in the fall it’s going to air in the fall. That’s a luxury we haven’t had in three years. We’re thrilled to be with CBS. One more dig -- CBS has already one more promos that NBC in the entire five years. Why look back. Here we are and really excited to be here.” |
