Prof. Payne's Secret Feelings For Melinda?

Did anyone else notice in the season 3 premiere, in the scene where Melinda meets the professor for lunch, that he was talking to himself before Melinda got there? It was like he was practicing what to say to her, because he was saying something about how he was worried that she was gone (died) and that he had lost the chance to tell her everything he wants to tell her. Then, when Melinda showed up, he acted a bit caught off guard.

Notice how he interjected himself into the photo taken at the store when she got her award and David looks at him

Jup! That was so...dk! SO strange....I mean I hope he knows that Mel has a wondeful husband and never won't be with him!
I think he likes Mel more than just a friend and he also knows theres no possiblity to have her!
