'Ghost' duo set dramas for ABC Sander, Moses to develop three femme shows By CYNTHIA LITTLETON – DAILY VARIETY Ian Sander and Kim Moses have set their sights on ABC. The exec producers behind CBS' "Ghost Whisperer" have three drama projects percolating at the Alphabet under their overall deal with ABC Studios. A common thread among the three projects is that they revolve around strong female characters with unusual occupations. The femme focus is a good fit with the chromosomal tilt of ABC's aud, but it also reflects the interest of Sander and Moses, who are married, in exploring how the roles of women in the contempo workplace have evolved in recent years. "These shows reflect the way in which our culture has changed and continues to change," said Sander, noting how it's become commonplace for women to excel in once male-dominated fields like medicine and law. That more men and women are working side by side as peers in workplace settings "has changed the way men and women communicate," added Moses. The duo went into this development cycle with the goal of fielding three scripts at ABC. They tailored their projects to ABC's needs after lengthy conversations with Alphabet brass. Sander and Moses are seasoned drama showrunners who also frequently direct segs of "Ghost Whisperer," which is co-produced by ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios. "Jane and ****" is a legal drama set in an all-female firm. The central character is a woman who's about to inherit her father's firm and get married when a boyfriend from her teenage years suddenly steps back into her life. ABC Studios played matchmaker between the Sander/Moses team and author Jennifer Weiner ("In Her Shoes"), who is co-writing the pilot with Michael Reisz ("Boston Legal"). "Police Surgeon" comes from writer Lance Gentile, an alumnus of "ER" and "Third Watch" who is also a practicing emergeny room physician. The premise of the Chi-based show, about a female cop who is also a surgeon, is as simple as its title: "We'll save lives and solve crimes," Sander said. Gentile recently worked with Sander and Moses in writing the latest "Ghost Whisperer" vidgame, set for release next year. "Ghost World," penned by feature scribe Daniel Taplitz ("Chaos Theory"), stems from Sander and Moses' longstanding interest in supernatural themes. It revolves around a male ghost who helps an ambitious femme homicide detective in Gotham crack her cases in the hopes of finding clues to his own life and death. With the financial pressures on nets and studios these days, Sander and Moses said they're gratified by ABC's response to their development. "At a time when everyone in TV is having to deal with adjustments, we're fortunate to be able work with some wonderful writers on these really interesting ideas," Moses said. |

| JLH Nut |  CBS adds to NCIS and subtracts from Numb3rs Posted Nov 5th 2009 8:10AM by Bob Sassone – TV Squad Michael Ausiello is reporting that CBS has reduced the number of episodes of Numb3rs for this season from 22 to only 16. What does this mean for the show? Well, it means that sometimes numbers aren't good even on Numb3rs. It also means that this pretty much guarantees that this will be the last season for the show. Ausiello thinks that CBS will put Flashpoint in the time slot when the episodes run out. So, are all of you people who tried to save Southland going to mount a similar campaign for this show? I didn't think so. But there's good news for fans of NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, How I Met Your Mother, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, The Mentalist, The Good Wife, The Big Bang Theory, Criminal Minds, and Two and a Half Men: they've ordered more episodes for all of those shows. This comes on the heels of of Accidentally on Purpose getting an order for five more episodes. No Medium, Old Christine, Gary Unmarried, Three Rivers, or Ghost Whisperer on that list, so fans of those shows will have to wait and see. I'm going to predict that at least two of those shows won't be renewed for another season. |

Viewers put NBC's "Law & Order" ahead of CBS' paranormal lineup on Friday. CBS did tie with NBC and ABC a couple of times during the night, but the Eye prevailed in rating averages for the night, and matched ABC in demographics. "Numb3rs," "Medium," and "Ghost Whisperer" drew 7.8 million viewers and a 5.1 rating/9 share in households for CBS, while NBC took in almost 7 million viewers and a 4.5/8. Third place went to ABC (5.8 million, 3.9/7), followed by FOX (3.9 million, 2.6/4) and The CW (1.9 million, 1.3/2). CBS and ABC tied among adults 18-49 with a 1,8 rating, beating out CBS' 1.6. FOX came in third in the key ad demographic with a 1.2, followed by The CW at 0.9. Some noteworthy points: For the week of Oct. 19-25, the following shows cracked the Top 20 of the DVR total-viewership ranking but not the Top 20 for live viewing: ABC’s Private Practice, Flash Forward, Castle, Modern Family, and Brothers & Sisters, NBC’s The Office, Heroes, and 30 Rock, and Fox’s Glee. Four of the top eight DVR’d shows for Week 5 were hour-longs from ABC. The CW is the network which consistently boasts the biggest percent differences between live and DVR viewership for shows like Smallville, Gossip Girl, 90210 and Melrose Place; Fringe and Dollhouse also perform very well in this regard for Fox.
