New Products: Hanes Shows Some 'Love' In Battle For Intimates
Jennifer Love Hewitt returns to support All-Over Comfort Bra.

Good news for fans of Jennifer Love Hewitt: the actress, who appeared in ads for Hanes Perfect Panty in 2006, will return in marketing for the new All-Over Comfort Bra with ComfortSoft Straps.

The effort comes as Hanes seeks to boost its share of the $10.5 billion women's intimates business. The category, which grew 10% in 2006, per NPD Group, Port Washington, N.Y., this year sees the arrival of such brands as J.C. Penney's Ambrielle private label intimates and VF Intimates' "The perfect 10" collection. Hanes is second in the category behind Victoria's Secret.

"We're seeing the most growth in the women's area, which is the reason we want to invest in it," said Sidney Falken, brand champion at Hanes, Winston-Salem, N.C., which also sells products for men and children. "Comfort is the most important thing in buying a bra. Women really struggle with it."

Hewitt will star in 15- and 30-second spots, as well as print, via The Richards Group, Richmond, Va. The year-long campaign has a "behind-the-scenes" theme portraying the actress in a fictional photo shoot. As she makes her way through various wardrobe changes she is plagued with an ill-fitting bra, which she tosses off and replaces with her comfortable Hanes bra. The theme will continue online at Hanes.com/photoshoot, where consumers can view footage from the shoot, play a "bad bra toss" game and blog about bad bra moments. "We know that consumers are spending as much or more time online than watching TV or reading magazines," said Falken.

The spot will break March 1 on American Idol and run on network, prime time and syndication. Print will appear in fashion magazines. Tag continues: "Look who we've got our Hanes on now." Budget was not revealed. Hanes spent $16 million for ads in 2006 to support its underwear and intimate brands, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

The new product is the latest to sport Hanes' comfort innovations, such as men's Tagless T-shirts and Comfort Soft men's underwear, and panties and bras for women. Brands include Bali, Playtex, Wonderbras, Barely There, Champion and Just My Size.

I am so recording American Idol on march first. I hope to have figured out by then how to get my local Fox channel in HD which is broadcast over the air. HD Love is the best
