From Yahoo Australian News Sunday February 18, 10:39 PM TV dance winner plans Aussie trip His own TV series and a feature film await Benji Schwimmer, the swing dancing Mormon who took out the second series of American reality contest So You Think You Can Dance. Schwimmer, 23, won the popular TV dance-off last year before Network Ten aired the series over Australia's non-ratings period. The grand final aired on Ten. The show pits dancers from all genres against each other before the best all-rounder is named the winner. After his victory, Californian Schwimmer turned down part of the main prize - a year-long contract on Celine Dion's multi-million dollar Las Vegas show. "I decided I'd rather do other things to establish my career a bit more," he told AAP. However, he gladly accepted the car and US$100,000 ($127,370) cash prize that also came with the win. Schwimmer said he'd prefer to strike while the iron was hot rather than be pinned down to a single show for a year. "I'm not hiding the fact that I only have about an 18 month gap to establish myself before this whole thing wears off, so I have to make the most of it." A full-time dance teacher across a range of genres, Schwimmer entered the show after he returned from an evangelical mission to Mexico and found his fiancee had become engaged to another man. "I was dumped by my fiancee and won the US Swing Championships for the third year running, but when I took a good look at myself, I wasn't fulfilled," he said. "I was gutted, but then I found out about this show and just immersed myself in my dancing, and started training in a whole range of disciplines. I decided 'I'm going to win this thing'." Schwimmer's success on the show has brought him far more than just a car and a wad of cash. He said shooting would soon start on an unnamed new drama - "like if you took The OC and added a bunch of dancers from Hollywood" - and a feature film with Jennifer Love Hewitt called For Love and Dance. He also has plans to visit Australia and hinted that he may be involved in an Australian version of the dance competition show. However, it's unlikely this will happen with Ten's program committed to Australian Idol and Big Brother after this series of The Biggest Loser wraps. "I have lots of students from Australia who come over for intensive programs and I think I'm coming out there some time around July and August," he said. |

| Junior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | I always look forward to seeing Love in a new movie, but am a little reluctant to get excited about it, yet, since there's been problems with other movies she's in getting released (i.e., "The Devil and Daniel Webster"...though, it's finally getting released later this year) and plenty of them shelved (i.e., "Why Can't I Be Audrey Hepburn?"). Whatever this upcoming new movie is about, I just hope it's good and there won't be any setbacks. Also, I wish that Love would get the chance again to be in a movie with other big name stars. It would help garner more interest for her movies. |
