As The Bears understand it, the ACNielsen company scientifically selects about 1000 households which have the same age and sex makeup as the general population of TV viewers. Equipment is installed on each family's TV to monitor what they are watching and relay it to the rating service immediately. The percentages reported are for these Nielsen households. For example, if 100 males between 18 and 25 watch a certain show then it is reported that 10% of the young adult males are watching. To get the total audience size, they take the percentage of the size of the total US TV households -- about 110 million. Does that help? Last edited by thebears; 11-29-2006 at 01:10 AM.. | |
