Inside with the 'Ghost Whisperer'


After a hugely successful first season, the supernatural CBS series "Ghost Whisperer" returns Friday, September 22 at 8 p.m. ET/PT for another go-around of chills and thrills.
As season two begins, spirit communicator Melinda Gordon, played by JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT, is dealing with the fate of friend and business partner Andrea following a tragic plane crash.
It seems that Andrea is being influenced by the Wide Brim Man -- an evil force that Melinda continually finds herself in a tug of war with. As Melinda tries to get spirits to go to one place, the Wide Brim Man is constantly trying to get them to go to another.
Desperate for help, Melinda turns to Professor Rick Payne, an occult expert portrayed by comedian JAY MOHR, who is best known for hosting the reality show "Last Comic Standing" and co-starring in such films as 'Jerry Maguire,' 'Picture Perfect' and 'Go.'
"It's a unique experience," says Jennifer about working with the comic actor. "He's quite the crazy man, but he's funny and delightful and he's doing such an amazing job. I think it's going to add a really interesting energy for Melinda to have to deal with on the show, which is nice."
As for working with Jennifer, Jay says it isn't all that difficult. "She's easy on the eyes, that Love Hewitt. She's a looker," he notes, adding with mock seriousness: "We wear the same sizes. We're just like a couple of girls. We get together in the trailer, have tea and flip some tarot cards."
And while "Ghost Whisperer" has proven popular, sometimes its fans manage to blur the line between reality and fiction.
"Yeah, some people really think I can do this, which is sometimes really funny and, quite honestly, sometimes it's really hard for me because I feel empathetic toward people, very much like Melinda does, and I wish I could help them, but I can't," says Jennifer.
"Which is why there are wonderful people in the world like JAMES VAN PRAAGH," adds Jennifer, referring to the famed medium who also serves as one of the show's co-executive producers. "So I always try to give them his information so that they can find someone who actually can help them out."

So make sure and tape ET and The Insider tonight. I've been taping all week and there hasn't been mention of Ghost Whisperer or Love so far, they've had WAY too much coverage of Anna Nicole's birth and son's death, anyway it looks like they're finally promoting tonight, probably will Friday evening too, just as they did last season.

Sort of famous for these mag shows, they promote something the day before and the next night, nothing. Probably got knocked off for more Anna Nicole coverage. They might run the Mohr footage tonight before the second season premiere.
