Sorry, Trotter, never heard of them putting out the first season of a TV show until they are a few seasons in, at least... Even the ones that would sell millions, like the Friends DVDs didn't come out 'til season five or so... But, who know, some movies are coming out immediately now... just can't see them losing out on the syndication rights by releasing it too early...

Ever heard of Lost? They've already given a date for the second season release, it's not even done airing yet. These days there's much more pressure from bootleggers. The same goes for top movies too, the window has shortened on almost any title. That doesn't mean we'll see GW this year, though I think we may before the end of the year. There still hasn't been any official release date given. There are tons of pirates out there, this very site has links to several bootleggers, even a quick search on the net, and I found a couple of bootleggers selling the first season at this very moment, we'll see just how long they'll wait.

I think Halis is behind the times... these TV boxed sets are big business now and they release DVD sets timed to promote the new season - they even released the first half of Battlestar Gallactica season 2 before airing the second half on TV. For most new shows they make more money on DVD sales than syndication as there has to be a certain number of seasons before syndication kicks in.

Anyway, hopefully that will happen with Ghost Whisperer and I'm going to buy a copy for me and copies for my friends.

SarahLove, fortunately you're wrong. Friends was in the mid-90's. DVD boxed sets were a brand new concept these days. Currently, the majority of successful TV shows (Alias, Lost, 24, Scrubs) release the box set the beginning of the next season. Hell... Doctor Who started a month ago and during the first episode, they announced the box set was available for pre-order and will be released in July.

Movies used to wait *AT LEAST* a year before they were available to purchase/rent. Now it's three or four months. Mind you... they still whine about lower box office receipts but that's another story...

Summary: We should hear something either within a month or by mid-summer at the latest.

In fact the BBC was going to release Doctor Who on DVD, in the USA, in January-February 2006 since no channel picked it up. Sci-Fi then did so, so the BBC postponed the DVD release to July 4th.

Season 1 of House has been out on DVD for some time and season 2 has only just finished on FOX.

Come on guys we all know Doctor Who can travel in time as well as space his dvd's are released a year before they are filmed....

Looks like most are coming out around a year after their original release date. I'd be surprised if it's not out by this fall.

If you've seen one offered, it's a bootleg, don't buy them unless you like DVD-R's with possible skips, poor quality, poor sound and no money for Love or CBS. No offense but the Philippines is a hotbed for unlawful copies of movies and television shows, some even come on bogus "gold" discs, being sold for pennies on the dollar. Crappy scratched and pathetic quality, beware. The US is chuck full of illegal copies too, one look at EBAY and you can find plenty of cheap crap. The difference in America is our pirates are much more greedy and want to take your wallet on most titles compared to so-called importers. It's all junk and the most irritating point is Love, the creators and the networks don't get any of these pirate profits at all, not cool.
