Thanks again Dave and Jim for more
Ghost Whisperer information. Nearly all the critics were wrong about the show -- mostly because either they thought it was a
Medium ripoff or because they thought JLH was nothing but eye candy -- and have a difficult time acknowledging it is a great show.
We think
Threshold failed because it did badly several of the things
Ghost Whisperer did well. Here are some examples.
Threshold tried to cram its whole concept including most of the details into the pilot and first couple of shows. There was no expansion of the concept as the show progressed, just one encounter after another with the rampaging crewmen of the transformed ship. The characters were pretty one-dimensional and didn't have very much reason for you to care about them. We didn't learn much more about them as the show progressed except how many wives Brent Spinner's doctor was paying alimony to. Finally, there was very little interesting about the relationships among the characters on
Threshold.
Ghost Whisperer, in contrast, gave us only the basic details of Melinda's gift in the pilot. Over the season, we have had the chance to learn more about her abilities and how they affect her and the people she cares about. The characters are multidimensional and we have learned a lot about their backstories as the season unfolded. We know many on this board think Andrea was short-changed for screen time but think about all we learned about her this year: that she was a prosecutor, her brother is a wheeler-dealer, and she had an unknown lover who came to her as a ghost. The other characters were fleshed out similarly as well as a few new ones added -- including both Melinda's and Jim's mothers. Finally, there is a rich interplay among the characters including one of the few happy marriages on TV between Melinda and Jim and a great female friendship between her and Andrea.
We think John Gray and his crew have done a fine job in putting
Ghost Whisperer together. Then Love and her castmates have done an equally fine job of making the Melindaverse real for us.
