| It's entirely possible that she could do another CD and with Scott around all he has to do is get former boss and still current advisor to Maverick Records Madonna to approve of JLH getting a new record deal. However I must at the same time tell you all that it is very likely Madonna won't approve of Jennifer being on her former label (being that she doesn't have controlling interest in the company anymore) and if she doesn't approve, Scott's current bosses probably won't either. Also you have to recognize the fact that after magazines like Rolling Stone (especially Rolling Stone's Jenny Eliscu), Spin, Vibe, Blender, Entertainment Weekly, US Weekly, newspaper USA Today (especially Life section writer for USA Today Elysa Gardner), People magazine and website MSN Music were finished with Barenaked (JLH's last album) nobody in the music industry wanted anything to do with Jennifer being that the reviews for the album were so terrible. And not only were the reviews terrible but they practically attacked JLH herself in each review. They attacked her singing, her voice, her songwriting ability, everything they could with all guns blazing. The worst review was the MSN Music review. People, that one was such a blatant assault on Jennifer's musical talent and Jennifer as a person that it even hurt me to read it. Another thing worth mentioning about the bad reviews I read and saw for that album was one particular attack on JLH's last album. Something Jenny Eliscu of Rolling Stone said about Barenaked on a VH-1 special. She said that Jennifer broke an unwritten rule in the rock and roll rulebook (and I think she made up this bush league rule) when she made Barenaked and that rule was (ready for this one guys and gals and remember the following are Jenny Eliscu's words not mine so you wanna be ticked off at someone send the mail to her at Rolling Stone) when you make an album called Barenaked and have a song on the album of the same title then you must appear completely naked on the album cover and if you release the song Barenaked as a single then you must appear naked in the music video. Yeah, like I said they the music industry really went after her for that album and it's going to be incredibly difficult for Jennifer to get another record deal Scott Austin or no Scott Austin. In fact, I believe if she does get another deal it won't be through Maverick Records (where Scott works) but through another record company. Probably a small, upstart company who won't do a great job promoting or giving the new album a chance in terms of its development and creation and giving Jennifer the talent she needs and would want to have to make the album a success. In the end, we might see another album someday but we're going to have to wait until the music industy gets over Barenaked thanks to places like Rolling Stone, Spin, Vibe, Blender, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, US Weekly, MSN Music completely destroying the album with their very heinous reviews of it and all the badmouthing of the album on VH-1 specials to stop before this occurs. Just this man's opinion on another possible JLH music project and until next time I am out! [ May 01, 2005, 07:42 PM: Message edited by: RareAir23 ] |

I just hope we get the chance to buy her music in the UK because I think she will do really well over here.... LOVE YOUNG GIFTED & GORGEOUS |

But as I said up top Ron, the music industry hasn't gotten over Barenaked yet and until they do it doesn't matter if JLH knows Quincy Jones or David Foster or Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds (for example as these guys are huge, big name record producers) she is not getting another record deal, especially with any of the following companies: A&M Records Epic Records Elektra Records Atlantic Records Sony Music Universal Records Arista Records RCA Records Capitol Records Columbia Records Maverick Records Motown Records LaFace Records Interscope Records Mercury Records Why is again, these record companies are the big boppers, they drive the industry. And the reviews for JLH's last record and sales numbers for it were so bad the industry would just laugh at these companies for signing her until they got over Barenaked. And from what the vibe on the streets is that hasn't happened yet and won't anytime soon. Granted, I'd love to see Jennifer release another album but reality in the music industry says its not likely at all to happen again. You see, when places like Rolling Stone and Blender and Spin and Vibe and Entertainment Weekly and US Weekly and MSN Music and USA Today and People magazine write reviews for music people read and base their buying decisions on those opinions. And if these magazines say the music is bad then the everyday consumer (not us guys and gals. Think the average Joe Somebody down the street who thinks Elysa Gardner is the Rex Reed of music) is going to initially think the same thing. So, here's to hoping by me for a new JLH CD very soon but if you listen to the vibe going around the music industry it's likely not going to happen till she's in her 30's. Until next time I am out!

Her singing, if you can call it that, is embarrassing to her. Sales of her album are embarrassing to record companies. Its a lose-lose situation for everyone. She may love to sing, but she can sing in the car like everyone else, can't she?

I know you're from there cause only people from that board think JLH can't sing. Listen, we're not here to debate Jennifer's singing ability cause that's been proven. She can and does so very well. Only problem is will any major record companies take her seriously and take the gamble of giving her another record deal after BareNaked's failure in the media reviews and total sales #'s? I only came out to say for now and the near future very likely not unless Scott Austin can all of a sudden pull some huge strings and use some major connections (you know people in very high places in the music industry) in the industry to make it happen. If this doesn't happen she has a very difficult uphill climb at getting a good deal with a good, major record label. Again, let's hope the industry finally gets over BareNaked (cause jeez people it's been 2 years since its release [yeah can you all believe it's been that long?]) and with that give JLH one more shot at at least one more album. Until next time I am out!

| Not really a regular General Music poster, but I was a regular poster in this forum around 4 years ago. Her singing......well, its not great, but that hasn't stopped others from making records, so maybe Love can give it another go. She can still sing much better than Ashley Simpson, and she has her own record. Maybe if her songs weren't so poor. It may be a matter of picking the right types of songs for her to sing, or picking someone else to write songs for her, because she shouldn't do it herself if Barenaked is what her brain conjured up the last time. Give her the right songs with the right producers, and she has a chance. And maybe she should stop working with Meredith Brooks. I like how Love said, "I'm a huge fan of Meredith Brooks, especially since the song, Bi<M>tch." It's funny because she always says 'I'm a huge fan of _____." Secondly, B<M>itch was Brooks' only hit song, and then she made like Natalie Imbruglia and split. |
