| I just found this site ( http://www.yousendit.com ) to freely share large files of up to 1GB. I don't know what's their bandwidth limit per file and the only kind of abuse I can find is related to copyrighted materials (MP3s) being hosted on their servers. Once uploaded, the file stays alive for 1 week. As a test, I will upload "JLH_on_Uncut.mpg". This is a show I captured on Star! (the canadian version of E!), it's a bunch of interview bits that runs for a little less than 30mins. The file is 232MB. Please PM me an email address if you are a regular poster on this board and if you have a decent internet connection (I am able to download at over 450KB/s from the site). You will receive the link directly from them once the file is available. A simple click and you get it, no programs or technical knowledge required! I will choose 5 to 10 people for the first test and we'll see how it goes from there. If you are chosen, I would like some basic feedback of how the download went. Cheers! |

| Thanks Alex. It worked out great for me as well. It downloaded at about 300 kbs and about 10-15 minutes. I was worried about that spam thing too Inguyen. I wish I hadn't given my primary email address just in case. Have you noticed anything like that Alex? |

| I wouldn't be too concerned about spam from them. They make money by providing a similar secure service to companies. I guess this is a way for them to prove that their technology works. For all I know, they may be wasting a lot of money doing that. It's also possible that they will wait for us to be hooked (like drugs) and eventually charge us Check out their privacy policy. | On the west coast, for me at least, speed varied from 30-170k/s. Initially, I was getting a decent speed, but then the transfer rate began to slowly decline. I'm guessing their servers are located on the east coast? :( Took close to an hour to complete. Apparently they don't allow more than one concurrent connection. |

| Since all looks good up to now, I'm taking it to the next level... http://s11.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=C...72E2B6C8709E55 L33ch all you want but I'd like to be noticed if something goes wrong. The link should remain valid for about a week. |

File Transfer: Blocked Your file transfer has been blocked. Most likely it has exceeded its alloted bandwidth or it violates our terms of service and has been tagged for review. YouSendIt reserves the right to block files that are inappropriate, illegal, or that are excessively shared over the internet. Please contact abuse@YouSendIt.com for more information. Probably too much traffic??? Excessively shared is so likely. First you have everyone here, then you add all the SS members = a big traffic jam? I noticed that the SS board is now using the same site. They are experiencing the same exact problem. Too much traffic. I have no clue but I wonder if we need to use the email delivery instead of one link that is shared by all? [ May 14, 2004, 06:47 AM: Message edited by: i love love ] |
