| The angel in white! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | This is the news artical I found on the Providence journal's website you have to sign up so I just coied and pasted it. CBS' Ghost Whisperer will likely be buried 01:00 AM EDT on Friday, September 23, 2005 BY DAVE MASON Scripps Howard News Service Ghost Whisperer suffers from a grave mistake. It makes speaking to the dead seem a little routine. What's worse, the series starts in the middle of what should be its primary story. And that's why this new CBS drama, premiering tonight at 8 on Channels 4 and 12, likely will get buried by January. Jennifer Love Hewitt stars as Melinda Gordon, who discovers as a young girl that she can see and converse with the dead. They're spirits who haven't moved on to the afterlife; they have unfinished business on Earth. Melinda tries to help them see the light -- figuratively and literally. The problem with the CBS drama is that it skips the most dramatic part of the story: how Melinda deals with discovering she has this power and how she comes to decide that she will help the deceased. Those are the questions I wanted answered, but unfortunately Ghost Whisperer jumps to a point where Melinda and her new husband, Jim Clancy (David Conrad), a paramedic, treat her ability as something they're used to. To them, it's an inconvenience and a job she has to do. She might as well punch a time clock. The episode improves later as Melinda and Jim help each other to understand the importance of what they do in their respective jobs. And there's a good storyline involving Melinda's attempt to help the spirit of a soldier who says he is lost. Other good moments include a well-written ending and Hewitt's ability to convey a lot in her facial expressions. Still, a drama like this needs to have life-altering events. Melinda needs to be changed by the experience of speaking with the dead. She doesn't seem to be overwhelmed by it; she should be. Wouldn't you? Unfortunately, CBS canceled a series in the same time slot that seemed to have the same intentions as Ghost Whisperer but carried them out with better acting and writing. I wish it was Joan of Arcadia that was still on the air. At the very least, it started with a compelling beginning. |

| I'll only say this..Providonce what? Personally i'm not that interested in reviews, especially not bad ones...i have my own mind which i can make up for myself. I liked the first episode, and seeing the trailer for the next ep. i think i'll like that one too...i hope it'll be shown in Europe too And about the "starting in the middle of the story" thing...who knows maybe we'll find about that gradually. It's not like the those review people saw all the episodes so, what do they know. If ppl watch it and don't like it, that's ok. But i can't be bothered anymore to read those kind of things, i'd rather stay positive than be around boring pessimist. There has only been one episode aired for the love of god! I really hope everything will go great for this show and it will stay on the air, and i'm wishing Love all the luck in the world for it. Negativity sucks! EDIT: Oh the Joan of Arcadia thing..again! I love(d) that show, it's still on here, but seriously they need to get over it! Amber Tamblyn is even long looooong over it. [ September 28, 2005, 09:04 PM: Message edited by: heartlove ] |

Perhaps they'll explain in future episodes how the characters got to where they are. I'm inclined to think that they will. And as far as Joan of Arcadia goes, I'm sad to see that it's no longer on the air, but it's cancellation had nothing to do with Ghost Whisperer. They just happen to have (had) the same time slot. Thanks for sharing the article, though ! At least this critic waited until after he saw an episode before writing about it. |

They all sit on a deserted island, and most of the entire first season used flashbacks, those flashbacks almost more important than the island itself. If GW gets a chance they may try to fill in the backstory, it may not too, who knows. The very start of the first episode showed Love as a child with her discovery. It will likely go back there at some point. I agree that the show has an uphill battle ahead of it, the writing is where it's at, if they use the same simple whispering plot for each episode it will die fast, if the writers try some different plotlines it may get past it's first few airings. |

| I have seen 2 episodes. And I dont even read bad reveiws anymore. Every hit show has had its share of bad reveiws. Thats the way it goes unfortantly. Not everyone will like the show, But they cant speak for everyone esle in the world. Just because they dont like it doesnt mean that others wont. Me I love it, Its different and very well written. Jennifer does a remarkable job in it. I feel like I am watching someones life unfold before my eyes. She is very believeable, I personally feel that this show is going to do good! |
