'Love' bug bits Korea
Hewitt starrer tops 'Interpreter' at local B.O.

It's not often that a little-known British movie has its world premiere in South Korea.
That the pic in question, John Hay's "The Truth About Love," bowed at No. 1 at the box office and beat fellow debutante "The Interpreter" is the bigger surprise.

But that's exactly what happened last week, when the Jennifer Love Hewitt/Dougray Scott romantic comedy took on the might of Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn, and won, with 162,000 admissions vs. 139,000 for "The Interpreter."

That's a remarkable validation for first-time producer Tracey Adams, after the project was nearly killed by the U.K. government's notorious tax clampdown of 2004. She lost a third of her budget just weeks before the cameras rolled, and risked bankruptcy to keep the movie alive.

Lakeshore Intl. has sold the movie to about 40 territories, though it still doesn't have a distrib in the U.K. or in the States. But Korean distrib Tube was eager to release it as soon as possible, to capitalize on Love Hewitt's big following in the territory.

I wish they would release her movies here in the U.S. so we can see them without having to buy the DVD from another country.

If Love can keep this kind of heat in other countries, it will mean a long career for her.

Many American actors continue thier careers due to thier popularity in other parts of the world.

How can we 50-staters see this movie?

We can only hope that it will be released in theaters here in the U.S. or on DVD. If that doesn't work out, there are places online where you can buy DVD's from other countries. It'll be out on DVD in Korea in no time. You'll just need a DVD player that can handle discs encoded for foreign markets.

I tend to believe Variety much more than speculation left at IMDB. Look at the dates in question. Either way, it will probably be released in Korea long before most of the world.

For it to be mentionned in Variety is the bestthing it could happen! If the movie continues to get buzz this could be the biggest thing in Love's career!!! :D Im happy for her!

We was told that The Truth About Love was coming out in the UK this February so a year out isn't to bad.... :rolleyes:

and Lakeshore International...same distributor

for another movie (Mayor of the Sunset Strip)

containing a song about JLH...

But still---this goofy pattern of getting JLH

movies distributed everywhere BUT the United

States...and having film festivals for her

in small, unfamiliar cities (like in Florida)....
