Teen queen of the jetset

THE chipped bright yellow nail polish reminds you Hilary Duff is just a teenage girl after all.

The blonde cutie-pie arrived in Sydney yesterday on a promotional tour for her debut album Metamorphosis and also to present at the ARIA awards tonight.
It's her first time in Australia and the teenage tycoon is here with her mum, manager, teacher and bodyguard.

Not many 16-year-olds can boast a Vanity Fair cover, their own successful TV show, a No.1 album in the US, several hit movies, as well as a make-up and clothes range. Not to mention a Visa card named after them.

But for Duff, the best thing about her success is not fame.

"It just doesn't click that it's me and why I got chosen. I suppose the best thing is I get to do what I love to do," Duff said.

"I'm lucky enough everybody enjoys the music and I get to tour with my band and I get to travel to all different places in the world."

Duff's rise to the top began when she dazzled audiences as Lizzie Maguire in The Lizzie Maguire Show.

"I started when I was eight and it's been quite a long time," she said.

"I have a totally normal life except when I travel," she said.

"I still have to do chores, but I refuse to do the laundry.

"My mum does so much for us, she has sacrificed so much so I'm happy to help around the house."

She recently celebrated her 16th birthday party with five of her best friends in Hawaii.

"I love travelling, but it's hard to be away from home and your friends because, well, I'm 16, you know what I mean," she said.

What about boys?

"Boys are so difficult right now, and I know it doesn't get better," she said.

Duff will be signing copies of her album at Sydney's HMV Pitt St Mall at 4.30pm on October 22.
