Smile TV Insider: Emily VanCamp

Name: Emily VanCamp

Role: The recently discovered illegitimate daughter Rebecca on ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters” (Sunday night at 10 on WCVB, Ch. 5).

Hometown: Port Perry, Ontario

Age: 20

Where you’ve seen her before: VanCamp is best known for playing girl-next-door Amy Abbott on “Everwood,” which was created by “Brothers & Sisters” executive producer Greg Berlanti. She also appeared as a murderous teen on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” earlier this season. “My parents were definitely missing ‘Everwood’ at that point,” she said.

Where you’ll see her soon: Opposite Christopher Meloni and Piper Perabo in the horror flick “Carriers.”

Did you know?: Starting at 12, she studied ballet at L’Ecole Superieure de Danse de Quebec in Montreal. In addition to being an accomplished ballerina, she’s also fluent in French.

Fun fact: There was an Internet campaign to get VanCamp cast on “Brothers & Sisters.” “It’s so kind that people want to see me back on TV and are rooting for me like that. They’re keeping me working,” she said.

On working again with Berlanti: “He’s a wonderful person and such a talented guy, and I couldn’t be happier to be working with him again. We both were kind of giggling about it because it’s weird for him to be writing for a totally different character. He created Amy in his head, and suddenly there’s this other girl, Rebecca.”

On her troublemaking character: “She’s kind of a little rough around the edges. She’s kind of that tough chick - a city girl. She’s very different from everything I have ever played, which is really fun. I definitely want to do different things. It’s just not very appealing as an actress to do the same thing over and over again. I never want to play the same character twice because then people get bored and I get bored, and it’s just not fun.”

Where you’ll see her in five years: Starring in a remake of “The Turning Point.”

She's been getting quite popular now that she's on Brothers & Sisters. And she attends more events now to. That was not the case during Everwood. Sometimes she went a year without attending any events.

Ya, it looks like Brothers and Sisters is a pretty big hit.
