Even some in the spotlight are worried about getting burned. Emily VanCamp, a 17-year-old actress who plays the primary love interest on WB's "Everwood," said the industry likes young performers because they're easier to mold and manipulate.

"It's very easy to turn a young actor into whatever you want them to be," VanCamp said. "You can't just change a 25-year-old, but you can have an influence on how a 15-year-old grows up."

She said she is often approached about dressing in more provocative clothes and flaunting her body.

"Someone I work with said, 'Emily, you're the sex symbol of this show. You have to understand that.' I said, 'No, I'm 17. I'm not a sex symbol, and I don't want to portray that,' she said. "If you're in the public eye, you're a role model no matter what. You have certain responsibilities. I want to portray confidence, but not show off my body for the whole world to see."

I'm not sure what that article was referring to. If she is asked to dress more provactively on the show then she really has no choice, since it's not her dressing that way, it's the character she plays.
If she wants to dress conservatively foff the show then that's great.
Still, if she's hired to play some troubled teen like Amy who is rebelling against the world, I wouldn't be shocked if she started dressing differently, since it would be in character.
As a fan of hers, I think she dresses just fine on the show. Nothing wrong with the casual look. She looks good in jeans so more power to her.

I don't think EVC needs to be provocative to spice up her character. After all her acting especially in the first season, is what has been more noticed. Between the tension with Emphram and the attempt to save Colin.

This quote of hers is nice, but the thing is she doesn't control if others find her sexy. She may not want to be one, but hello, she's an actress, and a very pretty one, so she's going to be a sex symbol to many, many millions, whether she is 17 or not.
Can't 17 year old boys think she is a sex symbol? Yep.
It's nice she's modest though, that's a nice quality to have.
