An old game named "Mamba", with a mysterious past, falls into the hands of a group of students. After a good day of surf and a celebration interrupted by a storm, curiosity leads the group of young people to play although they do not know anything on it; neither its sinister origin, nor its inherent powers. The young people who lost in the game begin to suffer horrible deaths. One after another they start dying in strange circumstances.
The survivors, terrified, are able to learn that these deaths are related to the game and its malignant force: "Those that participate in the game and lose will die; those that are able to win will be able to request a wish".
Jason (Mike Vogel), the young North American who found the game and unconsciously introduced it between its friends, decides that he must risk his own life to undo the course of the game and to save his friends.
In this task he will be accompanied by Erica (Eliza Dushku) a beautiful surfer girl that he've just met and that he has fallen in love. Jason and Erica play again to try to win and to recover their friends through the wish that Mamba grants.
A vibrating fight against the game and the local detective (who is trying to recover the game whatever the cost, cause he wants to obtain his wish) takes place.
Erica, that is not what pretends, loses and she faces her inevitable destiny. The survivor will be Jason, and he will finally confront... MAMBA!

- Everybody in the movie die after playing with Mamba, including Érica.

- The game always grants a wish to the only survivor of the game, in this case is Jason, so the wish that he requests is to return to the beginning for playing avoiding his friends' deaths.

- There will be a spectacular scene in which a bus has an accident (with many speciales effects) and another one in which one of the friends loses playing and is devoured by tens of crabs.

Does Mambo/Open Graves have a distributor yet? If not, then it's way too early for release date discussion. It takes at least 6 months for post-production anyway.

This is the type of film that typically gets nabbed by Lionsgate or Sony Screen Gems. If it does, then we're probably looking at a August or September 2008 release date. It fits the mold of any of the teen horror/thrillers that are released from Jan-March or Aug-Oct, but since it has the surf theme, it's more of a summer release. 2007 is already so crowded that it wouldn't have a chance. Sony's schedule is already pretty much filled up for 2007 and they would be looking to 2008, but they'd be the best bet for it to be actually advertised and distributed wide, so it has a reasonable chance of doing well at the box office.

Well, I know that Wrong Turn had a distributor and a bigger budget, but it was shot on October 2002 and on May 2003 it was released, right?
Wouldn't 2008 be way too late? I believe Open Graves will end up being released by the end of next summer, around September. I may be wrong though lol

2008 isn't really that far off, and taking into consideration we have no release dates for any of the previously announced projects, sounds about right i guess.

Edit: The poster at Truefan's site said that shooting wraps on Nov 29th, and the cast finish on 17th.

Also on 9th the set will be opened to media so I guess we should all look out for more info and maybe pictures then

I'm looking forward to a few set pics. It'll be interesting to see what Eliza's going to look like in it. I wonder if she'll change her hairstyle or colour?

very good point aph, indeed it is something. but i have an eliza meter. watching movies like bring it on and wrong turn only bring up my meter by 15 percent which is weird because new pictures of her bring it up like 40 percent (im making up numbers).

right now my meter is at oh lets say, 30 percent. (changes subject) ooh aph!! i finished the book! (i read very slow). i liked it alot! and now im watching season 3 all over again

I guess I feel contented because we got three TV interviews back in December/January and for some reason seeing Eliza as herself on TV makes me happier than actually watching her films. I hope she has to do promo for some of these new projects when they do finally get a release date. Plus, Eliza actually having projects that she has filmed is like 10 times better than where she was last year when she disappeared off the face of the planet all summer long. So anytime things are slow, I just tell myself that, "Hey, at least it's not like 2005 all over again! Things could be worse."

Oh yay! Maybe we should take our Go Ask Malice conversation over to that thread if you really wanna chat about it, though. I feel like rereading it already!

Have you been paying attention to the stuff at truefan? There was something translated from the press thingy about Eliza saying that she learned to surf there and wanted to bring a table back as a souvenir. So I think she's really in it?

Well, I can sure you she is there, totally in it.
And I also know for sure the movie will be released in Spain on easter 2007.

And also I can tell you something. There is a good reason for not posting or having pics of eliza at the moment...
