Default New Project: The Last Supper

From Boston.com

Quote:
Dushku won't bare all for her art
Watertown actress Eliza Dushku has just wrapped up work on her next film, the intriguingly titled ``Sex and Breakfast." The movie co starring Macaulay Culkin includes an orgy scene, but before you get too excited, Dushku does not bare it all. The 25-year-old actress, best known for her work on ``Buffy the Vampire Slayer," told us she doesn't take nudity lightly, and turned down a role in ``The Dukes of Hazzard" because producers wanted to include a nude scene on the DVD. But Dushku does have a sense of humor. In a new short film called ``The Last Supper," she plays a beauteous barmaid in a modern retelling of the biblical tale.

Ah, you beat me to it, Ben!

I have to say, I don't like this new project AT ALL! Stuff like this is just going to make me end up not liking Eliza at all. Sob. I won't even be able to watch this new thing as I can't stand anything Christianity related. Ugh. My Eliza love is finally beginning to wane a little bit.

I am, however, so glad she was not in Dukes of Hazzard! Now we know what role she turned down way back when. It wasn't Closer or Sin City, it was that lame piece of trash.

It's only a short. I like experimental shorts so I'm interested in this.

Aph, you can still enjoy Santa Claus the Movie even if you don't believe in Santa... so go with it

It sonds like it may be a little irreverant to me anyway, "a beauteous barmaid in a modern retelling of the biblical tale"... bring it on!

Having seen the deleted nude scenes they're talking about I have to say that if thats the kind of roles in major movies that shes been offered, I can understand why shes taken the indie route

As for the Last Supper, I'm not a fan of religeous stuff either but I'm willing to put aside my beliefs for Eliza As its a short though it could be something that wont get seen outside of a film festival anyway...

It just makes Eliza sound really religious and as I expressed before with the cross tattoo, I'm really turned off by that. Agnostic Eliza, where did you go?

I also think I would start foaming at the mouth the second I set my eyes on anything Christian-related. Sorry, but I just can't support this in any way possible. I'm going to go cry my eyes out now and become obsessed with Alexis Dziena instead until she lets me down too :(. This is really depressing me!

I know the role that they're talking about too, absolutely minute and "requiring" nudity to try and offload some uncut DVDs. I feel like I've been negative about her career but if that's the roles she's being offered, even I might be acting too positive.

I don't want to be all preachy but as fans, we seriously need to get some perspective and help Eliza's career as best we can. Try to create as much buzz for her upcoming movies as possible because if the studio aren't behind it or if it isn't really really good, these movies are dead in the water.

Unless of course we're happy with Eliza the independent actress. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I mean we'll probably have to wait a long time to watch these movies or put in a real effort to find screenings but at least the general quality is higher than that of mainstream Hollywood. If we do accept she's an independent actress though, we need to stop all this talk about True Lies 2 or Wonder Woman because it's just laughable at this point.

*deep sighs*

Eliza, really religious? I don't know the girl personnally but I wouldn't be too afraid of that. First of all, the fact that the writer mentions her sense of humor before mentionning the project makes me think this is a comedy, and since it is a known fact that very religious people have no sense of humor whatsoever, it has more chance to offend them then to be a movie for them.

Besides, she played in a t.v. show attacked by Christian groups (BTVS), played a lesbian scene (Soul Survivor) and played for Kevin Smith. I doubt she'll make a U-turn and turn into Christian propaganda.

As for Dukes of Hazard, I'm more scared by the fact that the nudity was the reason she turned down the film. The crappiness of the script is more offensive than the nudity...

^ You're spot on with that last sentance Arrow! Now I know what film it was she turned down. Thank goodness it was that one. So a barmaid eh? Shame it's not real as I'd be waiting to be served by Eliza It's sounds religious, but if it's a bar, then it doesn't sound too religious. Dogma was a great film that involved religion, I wonder if it'll be in the same vein?

I just can't imagine why someone who isn't religious would want to do a religious film, Arrow. That's what my problem is. I'm more bothered by the fact that she wants to be in a religious film than whether or not the film is offensive to Christians or not. I guess if it's a total spoof type thing then I won't be turned off by it and will be amused. But right now, I have no idea what type of film this is, so I'm automatically thinking the worst of it.

We only know that the movie is a retelling of the biblical tale. For all we know, it could be as religious as Dogma, or Monty Python's Life Of Brian. In fact, the last example is the only other comedy I know who "re-told" a story of the bible. Oh yeah, there was that episode of the Simpsons with Milhouse Moses. And you may also count South Park's Passion of the Jew, although I haven't seen this one.

Anyway, you may have seen other movies than me but to my knowledge, comedy + biblical tale always equal irreverant spoof. If you're right, I'll share your discontent (I'm also agnostic) but I really don't think you're playing the odds here.

Am i the only one here that's happy about hearing eliza's doing more films?
I mean i not the most religious person in the world but that doesnt mean i turn away from anything that is. There are plenty of movies that have themes or influences that come from either the bible or something else christian or whatever religion. It could be that they take a biblical story and add elements that have nothing to do with christianity. For example the movie End of days is full of biblical things but that doesnt make it christian propaganda. Besides Eliza was brought up Mormon remember? That allways be a part of her in someway cuz she was raised that way.

And i'd rather see her in a religious movie than see her become the next Eva Langoria btw. At least she will be taken more seriously as an actress.

I dont care what kind of role Eliza plays as long as its decent and she keeps her reputation then I'm happy.

And I think Eliza is sick of getting the same roles over and over again. Maybe she wants to try something different to show she is versatile. Have we seen Eliza in anything religous? No, its all the bad girl and stuff thats slammed for satan crap or w/e. I mean a lesbian-ish character a vampire slayer those arent exactly too angelic.

And besides shes an actress just because she played a vampire slayer doesnt make her a vampire slayer. Lol. So, just because shes playing a religous character that doesnt mean shes going to be religous. Its an actors job to play different roles, thats what their paid for.

I'm SO glad Eliza has a new project! I don't care what kinds of movies she's in as long as she keeps making them. I wouldn't get too turned off by this new project, it's just another role for Eliza. Matt, I love your new avatar. I'm totally girl crushing Rachel Bilson.

Didnt she make some comment at Wizard World about 'not offending the religeon she grew up in'. While I'd agree its probably somewhat irreverent I cant see her signing on to something thats too disrespectful - her grandfather was a bishop after all...

I'm a little confused about that quote. Is it also about the nudity thing?
