Fox Shelves Tru Calling Until 2005

The usual crap from Fox. They've pulled Tru Calling and replaced it with North Shore.

No word on when TC will air. Fox has a total of 6 dramas now midseason (24, the OC spinoff Athens, Point Pleasant, Jonny Zero, The Inside and now Tru), along with 4 comedies and countless reality shows.

Every year Fox orders several shows never to air them. Last year it was Marti Noxon's Still Life and the comedy The Ortegas. Looks like Fox is up to their crap.

Ya know, if this had happened...oh, say halfway through season 1...it would've made sense. But then I suppose I shouldn't expect anything done at Fux to ever make sense. :rolleyes: Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't mean all-out cancellation.

...though that *would* free Eliza up to do a role that better suits her talents, but still.

as for their line up, i see a couple places where tru calling should be put instead of postponed/cancelled. i hate to use the word cancelled but going from past experience with fox, im afraid tru calling may not make a return. i hope it does but im prepared for the worst.

Petitions don't work. They can be easily faked.

Go to SupportTruCalling.com and start writing in to Fox. It probably won't help, but what the heck. I think we should send 2000 balloons to Gail Berman too. She loves balloons. :D

Really there isn't much we can do. Writing might help, but Fox knows they have the geeks watching TC. Fox Networks president Gail Berman was one of the exec producers for Buffy and Angel. She understands fans. She knows 50 fans can send in 1000 postcards and tie up Fox's phonelines for days, and they need 6 million people watching their shows. The numbers don't add up, no matter what we do.

As for Fox's lineup, the last thing we want is TC on Fridays. Totally Stupid Videos and Stupid Behavor belong on Fridays at 8pm. World's Wildest Police Videos was the highest rated show Fox has had on Fridays since X-Files. It was dirt cheap to make and they're using clips from that for those other two shows. Police Videos would probably still be on today if the exec producer didn't die tragically falling off a cliff. (I'm not joking).

Mondays mean either 7-8 million viewers or you're cancelled or moved. TC can't average that kind of numbers. A Monday timeslot would be a death sentence, especially without a lead-in.

I can't say i'm altogether shocked - I was just waiting for Fox to pull something like this. I'm disappointed though and think that we should make some kind of effort to make Fox notice we're unhappy, if not for us then for Eliza, it's got to be hard on her.

I haven't received any replies from my contacts on the TC production staff. I have a feeling they're probably a little busy and maybe not in the talking mood. I'll try to find out if they're targeting any network.

Variety said that economics are playing a big factor, so that may make it impossible to move to another network.

How far are they into filming? I haven't got the schedule this year but with an ep taking about a week and a half to shoot, they should be nearing the sixth episode mark soon. Seems such a late time to cut the episode order.

Such a screwed up situation, at 6 eps they will only be mid-way through the Jenson arc too. [img]graemlins/shake.gif[/img]

You'd think that FOX would have the decency to be straight with the fans. I hate all this corporate waffling BS that FOX is so good at. Like they'd ever grow a pair and tell us the truth about what's going on.

I've already e-mailed Fox and vented. I know they don't care enough to read it but I feel better.

Eliza is better of without FOX anyway. I guess Sci-Fi is officialy dead. closest thing we have right now is Alias. I was going to watch Marti Toxin's new show Still Life, but no way in hell am I going to do so now.

Don't even think about a Faith Series. In the current TV environment it just ain't going to happen. A BtVS movie? Maybe, but Joss is all about Serenity right now. Serenity now, Insanity later ;)

If they're on schedule, they start filming episode 6 this week. So basically Fox is cutting them off right where they are. From what I know about the story, they're right in the middle. So we get absolutely no closure. Unless the writers knew this was coming, they won't have time to wrap up any storylines.

I know Fox has the habit of looking at episodes as they're filming and making judgement calls. I know someone who worked on the show the Grubbs two years ago. It was a stupid family sitcom on Fox starring Randy Quaid that never aired. Fox decided it just wouldn't do well, just based on screening a few episodes for a small group of people. While The Grubbs was never a good show and was never going to be a hit, it did have it's moments. Yet, Fox decided just after seeing a few episodes that were filmed to never air it. But 8 episodes were filmed.

The Still Life fans (another show that Fox made yet never aired) said something about Fox being able to write the show off on their taxes instead of just taking a huge loss if they aired it. I'm not sure about all of that, but maybe that has something to do with it since Fox has the habit of making at least 2 shows a year they never air. Last year it was Still Life and the Ortegas. And Oliver Beane has at least 5 episodes from Season 1 and probably at least 5 from Season 2 that have never aired.

On a different topic, anyone here really good with writing press releases? Anyone majoring in marketing or communications and want experience doing PR? I wanted to put out a press release on PRWeb about STC.

The fact that they would cease production straight away is very worrying, it makes the suggestion that FOX would go ahead and let all 13 eps be shot (like the Yahoo! insider suggested) due to costs seem very unlikely.

Supporting a show and getting it on air is one thing but supporting it to get it back into production is something else. Mother fuc[/i]king FOX.

I would have written to fox the only thing holding me back is that Tru Calling doesnt air here in Singapore. [img]graemlins/sniff.gif[/img] What else can be done? Think they'd bother that Eliza has international appeal?
If they want numbers, wouldnt a petition work then? I need my Tru Calling!

On a seperate note, I agree with someone's comment that Eliza is too good for Fox. Why does it suddenly seem like Tru is my fave character Eliza played?

Hopefully the first few episodes will get good ratings, when they get shown.

It may also help if the 1st season DVD sells well.
