| Anybody know if Eliza's actually a practicing Mormon? I was debating w/my wife on whether she actually is or not which naturally led into the "Could she actually be virginal or not" discussion. I think I remember an article where she mentioned it but wasn't sure how close to it she got nowadays. I just found out Paul Walker is one but hasn't practiced in about 6 years. My guess would be, given Eliza's devotions in relationships (she's definitely not a "Different guy every day girl" which I love about her), I'd say it's definitely possible but my wife disagrees. Or has she changed religions altogether? |

| Member ![]() | Eliza says she doesn't practice - but she is known for taking a cross with her when flying on a plane, which perhaps suggests she still has religious beliefs. I guess this is also prevalent when you consider how much she empathises with her Grandmother's views about some of her scenes in movies/TV, and tries to rectify them as best she can. Also Eliza seems proud of being a "mormon" - so I suppose it might depend on an individual's idea of what constitutes as following a religion. *Shrugs* Interesting discussion though lol |

| I'm on the fence. I think she probably is practicing for the most part but the sex before marriage thing has me befuddled. While I'd like to believe she's individual enough to stay away from it and I think any guy would hold out long enough to spend his life w/her if he did, it is somewhat unrealistic in this day and age. My guess is she probably makes her steadies (when did I warp back to high school?) pay their dues long before considering taking that step which is fine. |

| Junior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I remember in an interview that was posted in the last several months but took place like two years ago she said that she wasn't a practicing any religion, but that she wanted to get more spiritual, she just isn't sure what path to take. I think she said that she feels spirituality when she travels and when she's with her family. She also mentioned something about going to Buddhist temples. I think she mentioned in that Buffy religious book that she was even once an atheist during her teen years. Even as a kid, Eliza has mentioned that she always questioned things in Sunday school and I remember her talking about how her and her brothers used to jump out of the van on the way to church. So, I doubt that she's much of a strict Mormon these days. She always has said that she believes in some higher power but she doesn't know what. |

| Eliza's SO ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | She drinks coffee and used to smoke and she drinks so she doesnt practice. In the "What would Buffy do?" book I am pretty sure there is something in there about her saying she isnt religious but believes in spirituality. I will have a look at the book when I get home and see what it says. The girl is comfortable with her body so I doubt the abstaining before marriage thing with her but then again that is her business! |

| Eliza's SO ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | okay in the What Would Buffy Do? Book they interview Eliza and they asked her what her own religious or spiritual background was. This is what she said "I'm in a mode in my life where I was raised Mormon, but I kind of fell out of Mormonism when I was like 10 or 11 years old. I was one of those kids who saw religion in te same catergory as superstition, almost. I was alway questioning and wanting proof. One thing I've always loved about Mormonism is that Mormons really help each other out. You cant deny that. They back each other up and help each other out in the worst times" She also said she didnt like this idea of a guy in the sky that would punish her and she hated the guilt, she thinks it is too much for kids. She talks about a gay family member and how she got kicked out of a Mormon's girls camp for saying that boys kiss each other. She said they arent all in one catergory and she goes to church with her Mormon grandparents when she visits. She then is asked about Spirituality ad she said this. "I believe in the basics - they dont sound very profound. Treat other people how you want to be treated. I'm not calling myself an athiest anymore. I know that there must be a higher power, and there must be something greater and bigger than me, than I've seen. I believe in people...and my family...and my mother. And whatever my mother has told me and can teach me, I am prety much a believer. My mom's my hero" Hope that helps [ October 06, 2005, 06:20 AM: Message edited by: Tash the Vampire Slayer ] |

| Kiss My Pom Poms ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Cheers Tash - good to hear Eliza's views on it To "practice" Mormonism though would mean amongst other things not drinking alcohol, tea, coffee or smoking cigarettes. Practicing Mormons also have controversial views on homosexuality and abortion, and believe in dressing conservatively. And no, I'm not a Mormon lol, but a close friend of mine was raised Mormon and turned her back on it. I'd imagine it's quite hard in this day and age, and in Eliza's chosen profession, to be a fully practicing Mormon. As with any religion though, many people don't have to practice to still try and uphold some of the faith, particularly if it's a family thing. I'd imagine Eliza dresses conservatively and probably doesn't drink or smoke in front of her Grandmother for example! [ October 06, 2005, 07:28 AM: Message edited by: Keri ] |

| Thanks Tash, its been a while since I read What Would Buffy Do. Eliza seems to believe in a kind of spirituality, rather than any specific religeon. Didnt she also mention a kind of self improvment book that she believed in, that teaches you to always strive to be a good person and carry out kind acts? Everyone thats met her always seems to comment on how polite she is... |

I didnt read all of it last night just took the quotes out and did a rough outline. She goes on about her Mum a lot, she really trusts and believes in her and I think she gets a lot of that from her. | |
