Phone/The Eye

Just saw this movie and it's awesome. Anybody know if they're planning to make am American version of it a la Ju-On (The Grudge) or Ringu (The Ring)? I heard Tom Cruise's company was in the process of turning The Eye into an American film, which Jessica Alba evidently tried out for but didn't get (?), so I'm hoping they'll do the same w/Phone. It'd be awesome if Eliza got a shot at it or The Eye. They're great Japanese horror films and she'd be awesome as the lead girl in either.

i enjoyed the ring,and the grudge,ive not come across the other two films yet,but i will keep an eye out for them.i aggree eliza would be perfect for this type of film.thanks for info

Quick plot synopsis of each:
The Eye-A blind woman gets an eye transplant and begins seeing things that may or may not be real and supernatural in source. She spends the movie trying to understand this "gift" and the mystery behind the things she's seeing.

Phone-A woman replaces her cell phone number after receiving stalker threats due to a news story she did. Then strange phone calls start coming to it possibly from beyond the grave and she has to find out what they mean. The calls begin affecting her entire family in bizarre ways as well.

Both are very well written supernatural mysteries which I think may not be quite as consistently scary as The Grudge but do have their moments for sure. Eliza would be great in either and they'd surely be hits given the success of Dark Water, The Grudge, and The Ring (stay away from The Ring 2, it was awful, I think).

If they've not cast anyone, then Eliza would be a good choice. The Eye's a great film, scary and has a great story and ending. Go get the original now.

I actually think The Eye is a more cerebral movie whereas Phone is more along the lines of The Grudge as far as scariness. I'm really curious as to whether they've cast The Eye yet. If anyone's going to the Wizard Convention and happens to bump into her maybe they should mention them for her to check out. That'd be cool.

Try the Asian film sections in Virgin and HMV, or try the Tartan.com website (they release most Asian films over here).

I forgot about Phone, creepy ending :eek: I think Eliza would be good in either. If they're done well and keep to the close to the original as possible.

Renne Zellwegor is to star in the Psychological horror film The Eye according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Director of the version is Hideo Nakata whose Japanese chiller Ringu and its sequel were remade in Hollywood, which he also directed. Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner are set to produce the movie.

I like Renee Zellweger but they should have picked someone in their late 20's for this role because it's really about someone exploring who they really they beyond the whole learning to see again thing. She does play vulnerable pretty well but I'd rather see a young up and comer like Eliza do it. That's what made the other ones like The Ring, The Grudge, and, to a lesser degree, Dark Water good movies because they picked lesser known or up and coming actresses for the roles (even though Jennifer Connelly is fairly established; Sarah G and Naomi W weren't really big movie tickets at the time). Just my two cents.

I also like Renne, but i think she is too old for the role. I think Eliza would relish doing a film like this as it has a good script and the director knows what he's doing with the genre of film. Eliza could easily do this type of film, perhaps she could do 'The Phone' in the near future.

As Tom Cruise brought the rights to this one, aswell?

I don't know if he bought the rights to this one too but The Cruise does like to collect things (movies, beautiful women...) so who knows. If only I were Eliza's promoter/man, the things I could do for her....

^ Hope he doen't collect Eliza. Shame that Rene's got it. Though I think Phone would work in the West, due to it being a scary film which uses mobile (cell) phones.
