Angelina Jolie adopts AIDS orphan
Wednesday, July 6 2005, 10:02 BST -- by Daniel Saney

Angelina Jolie is adopting an Ethiopian girl made an orphan by AIDS, according to People magazine.

Jolie told the magazine that she and three-year-old Cambodian adopted son Maddox were "very happy to have a new addition to our family," apparently to be named Zahara Marley Jolie.

A friend of the actress told the magazine: "Angie's over the moon. It's a dream come true. She's always wanted to extend her family."

The source added that Jolie was at pains to make it clear that she is adopting as a single mother, and this should not be seen as a joint venture with rumoured lover Brad Pitt, with whom she is supposedly pregnant.

hmmm...weren't there some other news like this one? supposedly adopting that russian/german/some european kid and it turned out to be false or something?

Whatever. Poor maddox, I think she's better off with one kid, then again she said she wanted a big family. But yeah, Maddox now have to share the attention, he is no longer the only child.

I'm an only child so I dunno, maybe it's the 'only child in me' that's speaking. But yeah...that's great! Another kid to babysit for brad!

yes, I belive his name was Gleb.
I wonder if this one is just another rumour or it has some truth behind it?

What are you talking about? Maddox is a 'proper' name and is of English origin meaning Son of the Lord... :rolleyes:

Anyway, I wouldn't expect there to be any pics anytime soon. This strikes me as the sort of thing Angelina would like a bit of privacy over for a while?

This has been talked about on the BBC Radio news today, apparently, Angelina and Brad have collected Zahara and are now back in the UK.

Angelina has adopted her with single parent status though, just to quash any Brangelina rumours before they start up lol.

congrats and all, thats a great thing to do, but i'm slightly confuzzled! Didn't angelina swear blind she and pitt were just friends, she even went as far as talking about how she would never do that cos of how her father had treated her mother. So she lied?

They have still not said they are an item, and definitely not that they were having an affair while he was with Jen.

It is quite possible that they are friends, and that they share a lot of the same beliefs and stuff (charity work love of kids etc)

I refuse to think badly of her.

Us Weekly magazine has issued an apology to Angelina Jolie for claiming that she was adopting a child with Brad Pitt.

Although Jolie has adopted a girl, an Ethiopian made an orphan by AIDS, it is her name alone that appears on the adoption papers. Brad Pitt accompanied her when she signed them, but has no part in the adoption, reports IMDb.

The magazine's website contains a statement saying: "Jolie's new daughter is, in fact, a girl and while Pitt was present when Jolie signed the adoption papers, he himself was not a party to the adoption... We learned that we had made these errors and stopped the print run in order to correct the story. However, not all issues were corrected in time."

I think they're being a bit harsh on her about the whole gleb thing, but then it is a tabloid, you have to wonder of the boy actually exists!
