Amanda confirms involvment in Hairspray 2!

Amanda: I'm not in [Footloose]. But it's okay, I'm doing Hairspray 2 so no problem. I can't give any information but it's being written.

TeenHollywood: Are you all having fun and becoming friends on the Easy A set here? It looks like you are having fun kicking back and working together.

Amanda: Yeah, we're having a great time. It's a fun, young cast and I got to work with Lisa Kudrow who I'm a huge fan of and it's great, Patricia Clarkson, Thomas Hayden Church, Stanley Tucci. It's amazing. We have such a great script and Screen Gems is amazing so I'm really happy. So far, it's been extremely fun. We've been bonding, hanging out and having a really good time.

TeenHollywood: Did you have a "normal" high school experience or were you home-schooled?

Amanda: I went to high school and I also home-schooled. I was in and out because I was doing shows so I would do school on set but, because I'm very social and I liked being around my friends, I would make both work.

TeenHollywood: Did you have a "mean girl" experience in high school?

Amanda: Yeah. I did. There were some girls who were jealous and mean. But, I was really shy when I was in high school because I was getting so much attention [working] that when I was in school, I really didn't want it because I wanted to fit in and have friends. I didn't want people to think I thought I was that great so I sort of downplayed it. But, then I realized you have to be true to yourself and your friends will like you no matter what and it's cool.

I'm sure they will hammer out the details. With the following Hairspray has they aren't going to put just anything on the screen and risk what worked with the first one. It seemed like nothing was going on with Amanda, and now she's busier than ever.

I'm not sure why but I have a feeling HAIRSPRAY 2 is going to be rushed out soon. I do not see this coming out 3 or 4 years from now. If they want Zac in it, they better hurry up. Zac is beginning to do more dramas and outgrow films like HAIRSPRAY.

I doubt that Zac will even do it. But I'm excited about this news, because there would literally be no Hairspray without Amanda! I hope they keep at least a few elements of John Waters' script because he is one of the funniest men alive IMO.

I like Zac and want him to dump Vanessa and date Amanda. I tend to agree. I doubt Zac would do it unless they deliver a dump truck full of cash up to his front door.The pay demand on the returning talent for this film could be huge.John Waters should really be directing this,in my opinion.Saw an interview with John somewhere around the time Hairspray was filming and he said some very kind words about Niki and Amanda and Amanda has said nice things about John. Amanda starring in a John Waters comedy makes me laugh at loud just thinking of the twisted possibilities.

It certainly is nice to know that Amanda isn't concerned about "Footloose" and has confirmed that there will be a "Hairspray 2" and that she will be in it. The big question is when do they plan on filming it. They certainly don't seem to have been in any big hurry!! From the way she phrased her comment doesn't it sound like she's hinting that it might be filmed about the same time as when "Footloose" is going to be filmed?

Actually I think Amanda should avoid, like the plague, dating any actors, wannabe actors and any guy who ego is greater than his intelligence! She needs to date a nice guy who is a producer/writer/director who has enough wealth to produce any film project that she would want to do (thereby making even more money), someone who is as intelligent and hard working as she is, is reasonably attractive, is funny and has a good sense of humor like she has, and who would worship her like she was a goddess. Oh wait! She has already dated someone like that...Seth MacFarlane.

Amanda stops dating the one guy (Seth) who she probably had the most in common with and then decides to start dating a douche bag like Doug Rheinhardt. Go figure! What is about men who are douche bags that women find so attractive?

When Adam Shankman last talked about "Hairspray 2" earlier this year, he seemed to suggest that everyone, especially Zac, were planning to reprise their roles EXCEPT for John Travolta. As it existed then, the proposed script had Zac's character Link Larkin as being central to the plotline. I haven't heard anything since then which would suggest that Zac wasn't interested in doing "Hairspray 2". As for replacing Travolta as Edna Turnblad there is one actor that I think would be perfect for the role. Nathan Lane!

I don't know about that. Since Adam Shankman is involved I'm assuming that "Hairspray 2" will be another musical. That requires a different level of directing skill and I think that John would be completely out of his element by attempting this. Besides, Adam Shankman must have done a respectable job of producing and directing "Hairspray" since it was nominated for 3 Golden Globe awards plus an additional 10 other award wins and 18 other award nominations.

Of course I want Zac. However, I have a boyfriend who I think is hotter than Zac,so I'm passing Zac on to Amanda.(LOL) I could not agree with you more about Amanda NOT dating actors. I have said how nice it would be if Amanda just dated a "regular guy'. A school teacher, a med student, an insurance agent, even a manager at a ,local Target.I also think she should look at a dating an older guy. Not 20+ years older or anything but a guy 8 or 9 years older. Was it ever confirmed that she actually DID date Seth? I saw a few pictures of them coming out of a movie theatre and the rest was just here say. I have never heard a reporter ask her or Seth if in fact they actually dated.

Nathan Lane would be a GREAT choice Oz. However, I hope they approach Harvey Fierstein first.He would be great. I had heard that when Travolta's name was mentioned for HAIRSPRAY John Goodman's name was also thrown out there. I LOVE John Goodman and think he would have been an interesting choice had Travolta not been interested.

That's damn generous of you Candace! I'm sure Amanda would be most appreciative. Admirable gesture on your part! I don't imagine, however, that Amanda would feel that Zac is worth getting into an ass-kicking catfight with Vanessa so I think she would pass on the offer. It would be interesting to watch though!

I can't imagine Amanda having anything in common with a "regular guy". Just imagine Amanda coming home and asking her "guy": "Hi honey, how was work at Target today? Get b*tched at by any little old ladies?"

Yeeaah! I don't think so! You need to have more than a little compatibility in a relationship. Amanda had virtually nothing in common with Doug Rheinhardt and look how that turned out! She needs a guy who wouldn't be threatened by her success and is equally successful in his own right. Like I said, the closest that she has come to that is Seth MacFarlane. Amanda doesn't need a "guy" who's out to use her to advance his own career, get publicity or live off her wealth like Kevin Federline did to Britney Spears and like Doug tried to do to her!

Yeah, actually Seth confirmed, during an interview on Howard Stern's radio show, that Amanda and he did date. That's about all that he said about Amanda though except to say that she was 22 when they dated. (See the following link to the video. It begins at 1:19 minutes) Howard & company tried to embarrass & lure Seth into saying more but he didn't. BTW, there's a spot where it's a little hard to hear but he used the word "dated" and NOTHING else (just in case someone thinks that he did!). I've seen pics of Amanda and Seth being seen together at two separate events at least. What ever relationship they had beyond that they could have been kept out of the public eye. Amanda was pretty good at doing that before she met Doug Rheinhardt.

I guess it sort of depends on whether they want to maintain the "illusion" that an actor is portraying Edna as an actual woman, like John Travolta did, or more like a "drag queen" character like John Waters intended in the original movie and like Harvey Fierstein did on Broadway. If they're going to maintain the illusion that Travolta started then I think that Nathan Lane is probably better suited to do that. Even though Harvey originated the role on Broadway I think his voice is just to raspy to make him believable as a real woman UNLESS, of course, that woman smoked numerous packs of cigarettes a day. I never thought about John Goodman as Edna but that would be an interesting approach and probably very funny. He would be a damn BIG woman though!

Hey thanks for the confirmation! I think Seth is cute and they would have been good together. He has tons of money so he wouldn't need her to further his career.Both have a great sense of humor, who knows what happened. Look at Jim Carry. He has had such bad luck finding the right person and now he is with Jenny McCarthy. They seem perfect and both seem so happy together. Who knows, maybe Amanda and Seth Rogen(LOL) I still think James Franco and Amanda would make a hot couple.I hear he is sweet and very,very smart.

I'll have you know when I saw the original HAIRSPRAY (the one Waters directed back in the 80's) I had no idea Edna was a man. I though it was just a big rather homely woman. It was a few years later when I actually discovered it was a man. They will probably try and get someone as close to Travolta as possible.(Paging Tom Cruise!)

Yikes!!! OH HELL NO!!! I can just imagine Amanda introducing Seth Rogan to her Jewish grandmother. It would probably go something like this: Amanda enters the room and says "Hi Grandma". "So where is this boyfriend of yours?" says her grandmother, "Is he Jewish?" Amanda responds: "Yes grandma, he is." "Come on in Seth." Rogan enters the room looking scruffy and disheveled. Upon seeing Rogan, Amanda's grandmothers eyes widen and her jaw drops open in disbelief. She looks up and down at him and turns to Amanda and says: "So a pretty girl like you can't find a doctor like your mother did?" "OY GEVALT!!!" She then throws her hands up in the air, turns around and walks off shaking her head. Amanda and Rogan turn and face each other. I'm sure that they would make a cute couple BUT James Franco still suffers from that one big problem. He's still an ACTOR! With all of the ego, narcissism and other problems that comes from that. To bad that Amanda broke up with Seth MacFarlane because they would have made one hell of a "power couple"!

I like the thought of Nathan Lane as well. But John Goodman is hilarious so he would be a great choice as well. Seeing him in drag would make my day but it would erase my fond memories of him as that macho blowhard Walter in The Big Lebowski. I've been trying to think of someone that would be perfect for Amanda and I just can't. I first thought of Jake Gyllenhaal because he seems like a sweet guy but he doesn't strike me as very funny. Amanda needs a guy who is as smart and hilarious as she is and I can't think of any guy her age who has her level of talent, respectability and humor. Maybe she should just date Richy and get some of that Aussie flavor! Do you think she might have any interest in a 42-year old, unemployed, chubby, Ghost Hunters loving, banana and ice cream eating, Bipolar, obsessive-compulsive, farting, belching and Barry Manilow loving guy?
