Female lead for "Footloose" remake has been cast!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news (if you consider this bad news) but don't expect to see Amanda in the remake of "Footloose"! According to Us Magazine.com the female lead has been offered to Julianne Hough.

"Julianne hough has been offered the part in Footloose, and it is contingent on scheduling," a Paramount Studio rep confirms to Usmagazine.com Friday.

I guess we'll see if Julianne can actually act. I suppose it didn't hurt either that it was announced, just 2 days before this announcement, that Julianne would be on the cover of "Shape" magazine along with LeAnn Rimes and Martina McBride (in bikinis of course). Just enough extra publicity for Julianne to help convince Paramount to offer her the role.

That said, I wasn't that thrilled with Amanda doing "Footloose" in the first place so this is not, in my opinion, much of a loss for her! Once she is finished with filming "Easy A" she will be free to start working on that second project for Screen Gems with Clint Culpepper (Screen Gems president). Plus she will probably have to start preparing for doing promotional tours for "Easy A" anyway so I very seriously doubt that she would have the time to even consider a supporting role in "Footloose" or anything else for that matter.

Like I said, no big loss. I sort of expect "Footloose" to suffer the fate of other remakes and fall short of being on the same level as the original movie which has become something of a minor classic (albeit very minor!).

Actually, for me this is good news. Amanda is starring in EASY A and then after that another film for Screen Gem.Amanda doing a remake of a so so 80's film did not sound all that great to me.

What about the rumour that Amanda has been cast in a supporting role? I'm sure that the producers of Hairspray would want her to be a part of this project too. The only reason that I would want her to do this film is because it will probably be a big hit! I'm not impressed at all with Julianne but I have to say that Martina McBride looked so damn sexy in a bikini that it took my breath away! I'm going to have to subscribe to Shape Magazine in the off chance that Amanda does a cover.

Apparently it's just a rumor! I've looked everywhere I could think of to find some verification of this and I've found absolutely NOTHING and mind you, I spent a considerable amount of time looking.

Right now I don't think that "Hairspray 2" is very high on Adam Shankman's priority list. From what he said during his guest judging appearance on "So You Think You Can Dance" (SYTYCD) a couple of weeks ago, he is currently concentrating on a new musical that will utilize several of the dancers from last seasons SYTYCD. According to the IMDB Adam currently has 19 projects in the works (yeah, that's right! 19 different projects.) and not one of them is "Hairspray 2".

Yeah, well I wouldn't bet money on it. It's lead male, Chace Crawford, is a relatively inexperienced actor who's most memorable role is in "Gossip Girls. The lead female role is being done by dancer/singer(?) Julianne Hough who's only acting experience was an uncredited part in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". The director, Kenny Ortega's most significant accomplishments are the 3 "High School Musical's" (yeah, whoopee.) and the most significant accomplishments of the writer, Jon Hartmere, are 1 episode of "The Megan Mullally Show", 4 episodes of "Punk'd" and a short feature titled "The Seventh Sense". Paramount is betting a lot of money on a lot of inexperience.

Well, Julianne IS a beautiful girl and she is one heck of a dancer BUT I can't say that I'm all that impressed with her singing ability either and I don't know how well she can even act. As for Martina, yeah, I agree! We have been know to raise some rather fit, healthy and dare I say, sexy women here in Kansas!

Now as far as Amanda doing a Shape magazine cover? Well, we've been over this real estate before but I am beginning to think that Amanda is the only actress in Hollywood who, within the past two years, HASN'T been on the cover of or in some magazine in a bikini, has been extensively photographed on the beach in a bikini, or revealed a large percentage of her anatomy in a movie or film. The extremely rare exception to this are those few pictures of Amanda in a bikini in the Bahamas and that one "Dear" poster.

I could rattle off a whole list of actresses who have been seen, photographed, filmed or posed in either bikinis or some other form of near nudity recently. This includes Martina McBride, Julianne Hough, LeAnn Rimes, Valerie Bertinelli, Melissa Joan Hart, Kathy Griffin (yeah, who woulda thought!), Disney darlings Miley Cyrus & Selena Gomez, Amy Adams, and Anna Paquin just to name a few. Hell, there are even photos of the great English actress, Helen Mirren in a bikini on the beach (She looks damn fabulous, btw). Perhaps Amanda really does need to consider posing for the cover of some magazine such as "Shape". It certainly doesn't appear to have hurt any of the careers of these other actresses/celebrities and may have actually helped them.

To be honest, I am rather disappointed. She would have owned this role. I would had like to see Amanda sing and dance again, but this time around she would have several number for herself.

I just wanted to see her playing a naughty preacher's daughter! LOL! But I'm betting money that Easy A will do at least as well as She's The Man and probably a lot better. And, I agree with Oz, all of those ladies he mentioned are looking fit and fabulous at various ages. Who would have thought that Valerie Bertinelli would now look the hottest that she has EVER looked? Makes me want to watch reruns of One Day At a Time all over again. As for Amanda doing Shape Magazine, you can all visit me in Forest Lawn Cemetery where I will be buried next to Sal Mineo and Joan River's fifth cocker spaniel. Not a pretty sight! At least I will have that certain Dear poster emblazoned on my tombstone for all the mourners to enjoy!

Julianne Hough got the role because the director, Kenny Ortega, is 'smitten' with her (in other words, he lusts after her). He so much as admitted to it, in an interview he did, when he was praising how good she was in the auditions. If she's that good then why does she need acting classes? Remember when I questioned whether she had the ability to act? Did you also notice that the reports stated that the "Producers" sent Julianne off for acting classes and NOT Kenny Ortega? Surprise, Surprise!!!

I'm telling you, it will be nothing short of a miracle if Kenny Ortega doesn't turn "Footloose" into a disaster. Think about it, Zack Efron was attached to "Footloose" for nearly a year and a half then SUDDENLY he decides that he didn't want to do it because he didn't want to be known for only doing musicals. Really?!!! It took him THAT long to figure THAT out? I don't buy it!! I think there is more to it than that and Zack was smart enough to know when to leave a sinking ship. Zack did 3 musicals with Ortega so he should know him pretty well. If Zack thought that Ortega was going to turn "Footloose" into a big hit he surely wouldn't have left the project. There is more going on with "Footloose" than meets the eye and it doesn't take a genius to figure that out!

So who do they get to replace Zack? Chace Crawford. An actor who hasn't done any singing OR dancing in any of his previous projects. It makes me wonder if he CAN even sing or dance. He certainly is popular. Even more so than Zack, if you believe "People" magazine, but popularity is hardly a good reason to cast someone in the type of demanding role that musical roles tend to be. The casting and the direction that this movie has taken has had neither rhyme nor reason to it. It simply doesn't make sense and I think that Zack was smart enough to realize this and left when he had the chance.

Quite frankly the way this movie/musical is being handled makes me glad that Amanda isn't attached to it! I don't think that her career can withstand any more disasters at the moment. She is much better off with the current situation that she has with Screen Gems, who are actually thrilled to have her working with them, rather than with an uncertain project with Kenny Ortega and Paramount. I get the feeling that Kenny Ortega is the captain of the Titanic and is steering it straight into an iceberg!
