| Junior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | E News Daily had Adam Shankman(???) On discussing his new Adam Sandler film BEDTIME STORIES.He mentioned Hairspray 2 and said he is set begin shooting in April because thats when it fits with everyone's schedule. If so, I do not see Amanda doing anything else before April. So, this could be her next theatrical film. Also, I saw this on Aint it Cool News. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/39387 I must say, this film sounds TERRIBLE! I PRAY Amanda does not do it. Maybe this is what Amanda meant when she says she wants to shock people. It doesn't sound like it has any of the magic or warmth or charm as the original. I mean, people hate Tracy because she is fat?I thought the message is to be who you are? Link becomes a druggie? "As for the plot, he said: “People hate Tracy (Nikki Blonsky) because she doesn’t lose weight. They ask ‘Now that you’re famous, why won’t you lose weight?’. And Link (Efron) experiments with drugs. Throughout half the movie, he has an ongoing dialogue with three pimples on his forehead.” “Edna (John Travolta) loses weight, but sees her husband (Christopher Walken) lusting after fat women,” Shaiman laughed, citing one of the musical numbers he’s particularly eager to write. “And so, she finally breaks down and runs over to a snack table. Just within one number, she gets fat again; gaining 20 pounds at a time. [Her fat] pops out, and by the end of the song she’s completely at her old weight again.” http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/12/08...olta-and-more/ Anyone else disturbed by this as I am? | Bynes=Love ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am! This doesn't sound like Hairspray at all! The first one was a family film! What's with the drug references? And like you said, the message of "be who you are." Maybe Tracy and those around her have accepted her for who she is but the public hasn't. That seems okay. But...Wilbur lusting after other women? What was the point of "Timeless to Me". No continity between the first two films. I hope this is just a joke and that they are keeping the real plot under wraps. I was excited to read this article but now I'm disappointed. Last edited by wonderboy; 12-09-2008 at 02:05 PM.. |

They should include a plot where it focuses on the Pingleton family, their family is mysterious. I want to know why Penny mom is so wierd and why Penny's father is in jail. I am mostly disappointed that they are making Zac Efron a huger star in the sequel. Amanda should not do the movie, this sequel sounds like a train-wreak. | Junior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | The film seems to be moving fast now if they start shooting in April. I was hoping Amanda could have done something before this started shooting, but I doubt she will now. I can imagine Amanda being part of this film if what I am hearing is true. Amanda seems to be changing in my opinion. |

| Moderator ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't even understand the point of even hiring John Waters to write the outline of the sequel. It just sounds like a unneccessary novelty in hiring Waters. I hope Shankman strays away as far from Waters' retarded plots as possible. I hope Amanda did not have to give up on a decent project because of this Hairspray 2 filmwork. I was almost sure that she was going to work on a different project before Hairspray 2. This is the most disappointing Amanda news I have heard yet. This beats dating Doug news. I still have yet to believe that Amanda has changed as a person. I hope after the cast reads the script, especially Amanda, they should say "Heck NO!" I hope I am proven wrong about this sequel, but it does not seem so. I feel like Amanda is going to be a small bit player again. Amanda, how are you going to prove to us your capabilities as an diverse, award (Oscars/Golden Globe) winning actress by choosing this fluff that is probably not going to enhance your career. I thought you wanted to start a-fresh by doing something very dramatic & shocking. Hairpspray 2 sounds like a direct to DVD that will be in the dollar bin at Wal-Mart. |

| Junior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | John Waters is involved. Its his baby. Reason I believe this story to be true is A) I just saw an interview with the director who said this was his next film and he begins shooting in April and NOW this story is making the rounds. If it were a hack website no one had heard of I would think it was a joke. But this is MTV,fairly reliable. I just hope and pray its not being explained well. Drugs in a film like this is a bad idea. Tracy being hated also sounds bad. SO many sequels try to go the darker route and they never work. I fear Amanda is doing this just because of the success of the first one and her close relationship to everyone. On E News Daily, Adam Shankman said Travolta is still considering it,so the story about him not doing is was either false or premature. Maybe Travolta was holding out for more money. When I said Amanda is changing, I did not mean it to sound like a dig. Amanda's new boyfriend caught me off guard. He is not the type of guy I thought Amanda would be attracted to and I worry about her image as being the type of girl that I and we all know she is not. Plus, if and when they break up she will be the girl Doug use to go out with along with Heidi Montag's sister and Lauren Conrad. Amanda's views on marriage and her many appearances at night clubs, ball games, and just out and about lately really has surprised me. That on top of her not doing any films for so long and now hearing the story details to this really makes me think that she has changed,or grown up. Could her new agent be advising her to go out with a guy like Doug? Sounds like she is getting career advice or something or maybe she just see's something in Doug we do not. Who knows? I just hate what I have heard so far about this new Hairspray film and I doubt parent's will want their kids to see it. Imagine that, parents NOT wanting their kids to see an Amanda Bynes film. |

| Bynes=Love ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't think Amanda has totally changed. She said in Cosmo that she's finding a balance in clubbing and going out, but no reports have shown her as drunk or wild or anything like that. I can't blame Amanda for wanting to do something different. I just hope it's not this movie, if this is the real plot. If it's something better than sure, I want her to be a part of it. I don't think this is keeping her from doing anything else. I think she's just being careful, and hopefully she can make a good choice involving this movie. Maybe she can offer her ideas of what she wants to do with the character like she has done for her movies before. I really hope this drug business is a joke, because I just can't see Hairspray going in that direction. It's going to alienate audiences that liked the first one as a great family film with good messages that was still edgy and funny. |

The site its from isnt a clone, I know that, I just hope MTV got there inside information a little wrong. Its literally sounds like a disgrace to the last Hairspray movie, which was a great movie. Broadwayworld.com who's webmasters and visitors where totaly up on the first one and where the first with new information and photos until that Newline run Hairspray blog came online seem to agree with all of use here, that this is beyond terrible. (all but about 2 out of 30 people) http://www.broadwayworld.com/board/r...986105#3733955 This seems so off to me, as much control as they gave John Waters, I cant see it getting the green light from the studio. Its nothing like what the core audiance of the last one, and the audiance of its main stars, want to see. |

| Moderator ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | In the end we should respect Amanda's decision if she wants to take up this project. She has been very choosy and if she sees potential then she should sign up for it. I am somewhat relieved that she is working on a project at all. Maybe an actor strike would not be so bad after all, hairspray 2 can be scrapped and potentially go down the tube because April 2009 is the only time the entire cast is available for the next year or even 2 years. However, I do agree with the rest of you is that she may do the project anyway regardless of how good/bad the script is because of her close relationship with the cast members and the creative team. Let's hope for the best and let's hope she makes the right decision. |

| Junior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well, we can debunk one theory. One person on a blog suggested this may have been a story treatment for a sequel to the 1988 film and not the Broadway show but an article was found where Waters denied ever considering a sequel to the 1988 film. Damn, that would have explained a lot if true! |

| Member Newbie | Amanda has the right to do whatever she wants to do. She may have a crush on Doug and went out with him, so what? I've always set a type of guy I would date with but I ended up dating a completely different guys. It sounds like you guys are being too harsh on Amanda. She's not a perfect doll, no one is perfect. May be Doug's appearance put you off, but do you ever know him in person? At least Amanda knows it better and I respect her choice. As a teen, do you hate that when your parents tell you your boyfriends is not good enough when they know nothing about him??? Amanda might be stress and unhappy from her personal lives so she decide to go clubbing with friends or some parties to release the stress. What wrong with that??? By the way the movie does sound terrible, hopefully she's not doing it so I would not have to watch Zac Efron dancing around. Last edited by Irisisme; 12-10-2008 at 05:06 AM.. |

| Junior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't speak for everyone, but my reasons are mostly the guy's track record. He is not suppose to be playing a character on the Hills. He "IS" Doug Reinhardt as the credits say and even though the show is reality TV we know it is scripted,so that bit of deception comes into play as well. My gripe is Amanda is not Lauren Conrad or Heidi Montag's sister (can never remember her sister's name) and she is automatically thrown into that group. Also, this does not sound like a guy Amanda would go for. I say that because A) she has said she does not go for guys like this and B) Amanda seems down to earth and Josh was not famous and a regular guy. I am not disrespecting Amanda. I love her and am a big fan.I am however going on a gut feeling. I myself have been with enough guys to know which ones to stay clear from. Good girls usually fall for the wrong guys. I could be wrong, but I do not think I am. I see Amanda going with an older guy, someone like a Chef or a med or law student or a writer or artist or someone. Then again, she could could go for another actor and it could be a perfect match. I or anyone else does not know for sure. So,please let me be clear. When I make these observations I am in no way speaking ill of Amanda. I am concerned and have her best interest at heart.I am being outspoken when I say I do not like her current boyfriend or this treatment to the Hairspray sequel. | Senior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hairspray 2, or anything else. I'm just glad to see her get back to work. btw Iris, you are right. Nobody here knows Doug in person. But at the same time, nobody here is being harsh on Amanda either. We are just concerned about her because we are fans. The thing about Doug is that even though I don't know him, every time I type his name in a search engine, all I find are negative stories about him. I even found out that he was dating some girl DURING the time he met Amanda. Have a look. Every site on the internet says he is a weasel, a player, a womanizer... I can't find one good thing about him. I am just worried that Amanda is going to get hurt once again (and this time, it will be public). And I agree with cdc when she said "good girls usually fall for the wrong guys". All the more reason to be concerned. |
