The possibility has been outed when "Hairspray" director Adam Shankman talks about the development of the drama musical sequel to Entertainment Weekly. Giving out further, the filmmaker also noted that Link will "become steeped in the British Invasion". Aside from revealing what Efron's heartthrob character will be dealing with, the director of forthcoming "Bedtime Stories" also shares that Tracy Turnblad and her friends will face "a time of serious change". This time, they have to navigate their way through the "next era of music", the late '60s. On the development of the movie itself, Shankman says, "We're trying to track, in a comedic way, the historical elements." He also confesses that they are moving on with the writing, stating, "We just got an outline and some ideas from John Waters, and now we're going out to writers." It seems like Hairspray 2 is happenning without Travolta, he will be missed though. I don't understand the Link's plot (please explain). I am deeply sadden that they are not focusing more on Penny. I will be deeply frustrated if Amanda's next project is Hairspray 2 and not some other pet project before working on Hairspray 2. I have high expectations for AManda's next big screen project since she had 2 years to pick the right project, Hairspray 2 does not meet that criteria. Adam Shankman, you made a huge mistake by using Amanda so sparingly on the first Hairspray film. Most reviews, critics yearn more scenes from her. Take the hint. It doesn't make sense in having access to such a talented person without taking advantage of their potential and gifts. At first I was very excited about this sequel, now I am like bleh/in between. |

I was hoping for more Penny. In my opinion she is the best character in Hairspray. Looking on the bright side, at least this is pretty much guaranteeing us something new with Amanda to look forward to. Too bad no Travolta though :( But I guess without him, the story will focus more on Link, Tracy and the rest of the gang (Penny/Seaweed). So Amanda might actually get more screen-time because of this. |

She gave a dynamic, breakout performance and it would be a shame if they don't use her talents to expand her character in the new one. Are we sure that Amanda is even going to be in the new one? I sure hope so! |

I would have think that they would have make Amanda's role more significant on the sequel. She did a favor for Marc Shaiman and Neil C. for appearing in Living Proof. I want her to do Hairspray 2, but not before working on several big films projects for herself. I don't want people to look back one day in Amanda's career and say that her only major success in her film career is the Hairspray franchise. Everyone's career after Hairspray (especially Zac Efron) took off with wild ambition. Amanda kind of put a lid over her own success, it's like she can't handle the success or something. The character Penny has so much stories that could be told, especially about the shaky relationship between her mother and her father, who is in jail. The sequel can also focus more on inner-racial couples dilemna. There so much to do with Penny. If I see her as a minor sidekick again and without a solo song, I will be very disappointed. I'm glad that Amanda Bynes get so along with the entire Hairspray Team. But if they aren't helping your career and if Hairspray 2 isn't going to help your career either, just refuse to do it like Travolta. The saying, "Don't mix business with pleasure" should be taken to heart in this situation. Hairspray 2 may turn out to be a trainwreak anyways. |

| Bynes=Love ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Maybe Amanda doesn't want to have a huge role right now. She's not seeking them out, and we know she has to be getting offers. She is enjoying her life right now while she's young. She did Hairspray, Sydney White, and her clothing line, not to mention a lot of press for her projects. Plus before that, she was committed to What I Like About You, which took a lot away from her life because it was a weekly show. They are not going to write a huge movie musical just for Amanda. It will be an ensemble piece just like the first one, if it happens. |

![]() Back on Amanda, she seems to get along great with the cast of Hairspray and also with Adam Shankman and John Waters. So I don't think she would drop out of this. I just hope they do more with her character this time around. | |
