Queen Laftia earlier on mentioned that she was excited and was on board. But I am afraid that the enthusiasm for cast members to sign up for the second Hairspray is going to start dying out. Other cast members may not be willing to do sequel w/o John Travolta. Amanda's career, may have taken another hit. I bet the only one who will do the film regardless of the cast members will be Nicole Blonsky. Out of all the cast members, Amanda seems to be the closest to the producers and the director. Amanda was in Living Proof for the producers and she was in talks to have a supporting role in a new musical (Hilton/Trump Musical) with Adam Shankman. So I think Amanda may also do the movie anyways. This piece of news does not bode well for Hairsray 2's future. This reminds me of what happened to Amanda's broadway project. Bill Paxton dropped out...then Gere dropped it. A whole lot of mess. I am fearing more and more for Amanda's career Last edited by pranksalot; 10-27-2008 at 08:51 PM.. |

Sometimes this kind of thing can have a domino effect where one big cast member drops out and then another and another. The first time I heard the news about Hairspray 2, I knew at that moment it would only be good if the whole original cast comes back. With John dropping out, it just makes it sound worthless. John Travolta is a pretty busy guy though. According to his IMDb page he has several things he is working on this year alone. He probably just doesn't have time. Musicals require a lot of work and maybe he is just not up for it at the moment. Whatever his reasons are, this is definitely not good news for the success of Hairspray 2. Lets see what happens. I'm not a big fan of replacing actors in sequels. Maybe the writers will figure out a way to leave his character out of the movie? ![]() Last edited by sparky; 10-27-2008 at 10:24 PM.. |

Michelle Pfeiffer and Christopher Walken may come back and the Queen already sounds like she's in so all they have to do is find a name actor who can fill Travolta's rather large shoes. I don't think that the first Hairspray was a huge hit because of John's involvement. In fact, if you will think back, Wild Hogs is the only hit he has been involved with in a long time until Hairspray came along. Next thing you know, he'll be doing Look Who's Talking 4 and Quentin Tarantino will have to rescue his career again! |

I thought the sequel would focus more on the kids anyway, but I really can't see it happening without John. Maybe he can be lured with money. Hairspray was great on its own and maybe shouldn't be ruined with a sequel anyway. |

Playbill pointed out that Travolta did two sequels before, so I'm guessing if he likes the story and the paycheck enough he'll have no problems with a sequel. Adam Shankman still likes the idea of a sequel too. Plus, the rest of the cast is big enough to support a movie, especially Zac Efron and the success of High School Musical. Not to mention every Amanda fan clamoring to see her shine in something new. http://www.playbill.com/news/article/122786.html |

I dont think they can replay travolta with another actor but his roles wasnt really that big. They might be able to write it without his character. Hopefully it still gets made, it made tons of money, im sure theres lots of poeple thinging about that who dont want to give up on a sequal. |
