Michel Gondry watches The Amanda Show?

This is kind of a funny story.

Michel Gondry is a writer/director who is probably best known for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which is one of my all time favorite movies btw).

Anyway, there is a rumor floating around that he got his idea for his new movie Be Kind Rewind from The Amanda Show's Blockblister sketch.

Kind of funny. Nice to know there's another big Amanda fan out there. Just Joking, it was just a mere concidence.

I read that on Defamer and I thought it was hilarious. I knew I had seen that idea somewhere before and I can't believe I forgot that it was on Amanda's show....Obviously Amanda's a pioneer of entertainment...haha jk...

This is where I read it from: and they are obviously fans of Amanda cause they threw in a new picture of her from the Penelope premiere just to do it.

^Yeah seriously. pranksalot is right, this story is spreading around quickly. When I started this topic last night this video had about 80 views. Now (only about 24 hours later) it's nearly 300,000.

I can't believe this went on without some kind of statement from Nick, Schneider or Amanda about this.

Does anyone else smell a lawsuit?

-A- I meant the guy who created and wrote TAS. I don't think it was Rob Schneider though.

I don't know how they would be able to prove it though. I don't really know how it works but they may not even have to prove anything at all since it is already protected by a copyright. mehh... let those millionaires worry about it.

I noticed the similarity the first time I saw the preview.

Michel Gondry was on Conan the other night talking about the new movie. Conan told Gondry, "It's a really good idea," and I immediately thought, "It was a good idea when Dan Schneider thought of it eight years ago too."

It doesn't really matter whether Gondry ever saw a Blockblister sketch, though, since you can't copyright the premise.

There are a lot of differences anyway. Instead of a couple of foreign kids (one of whom is a girl), you have two American guys (one of whom is black). And one of the main ideas of the movie is that people actually like the cheapo remakes. The customers in The Amanda Show sketches were always pissed off.

I don't know where Gondry got the idea, but I find it just as ridiculous when people declare there's no connection as when people are convinced there is one.

^Everybody loves to speculate in one way or another. Especially in cases like this where it has to be one or the other. But for every ten people that say he stole the idea, you'll find ten more who say he didn't. So yeah, if you look at it like that then it is ridiculous, since only Michel himself knows the real answer...
