| Senior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If there is any truth to this then it's really unfortunate. :( I strongly believe that Amanda knows absolutely nothing about this. I didn't see anything about this at peta.org or even at their forum. Obviously there are still companies that operate in these cruel ways. I'm a huge animal lover too. These kind of stories sometimes make me feel ashamed to be human. :( Last edited by sparky; 01-24-2008 at 07:43 PM.. |

| Member ![]() ![]() | AnimalLover, if it comes down to using animals or your relatives, what would your choice be? Unfortunately, animal testing is a necessary part of research, whether the product is medicines or cosmetics. I hope you're not going to turn this into a campaign against Amanda Bynes or anyone else. It's next to impossible to identify a large corporation that isn't doing something that offends an interest group somewhere. Last edited by M_F_Burk; 01-25-2008 at 01:23 AM.. |

| Senior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That link AnimalLover posted also has a list of companies that don't test their products on animals. It's a big list with many big and successful companies. I did a search for animal testing alternatives and got so many results. Basically it's cheaper and more convenient to test on animals Whereas testing on humans would require paying them to be volunteers plus a bunch of paperwork and potential problems for the company's name in the eye of the public if something goes wrong. But you do have one point M_F_Burk. Although I don't feel it is necessary, I can see how animal testing can lead to faster breakthroughs in research and development. Simply because the researchers can try just about anything they want without a care for what happens. Whatever the case, I just don't like it at all. I also agree that Amanda shouldn't be attacked for this. And I hope someone lets her know before a site like The Trollsen Twins pops up about her. She really is a good person and I don't think her name should be included with this news. I don't think she is the spokesperson for Vaseline. She is just involved in some new advertising campaign for vaseline along with many other celebrities (see here) If anything, they should go after Vaseline and leave Amanda alone. There is no way for Amanda to have know that. I didn't know that either, and I bet most people don't. Last edited by sparky; 01-25-2008 at 02:25 AM.. |

She probably just did a photoshoot for them not really knowing anything about the company. As for animal testing, its seems pointless to do if for cosmetics, but I dont know to much about it, may be the only way for some things, like a test for consumption. There website clearly lists there Animal testing policy under the headline Vaseline®'s policy on animal testing, so there not hiding anythig. It seems like all th cosmectics companies have the same thing. Quote:

| Senior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I wont forget. And I do care, a lot. Believe me. I just don't think this has much to do with Amanda. I hope she finds out about their methods of testing and comes to a moral decision. I noticed a topic has been started at PETA's forum. Maybe somebody there will be able to get the message to her. Don't give up just because "most people don't care". If everyone had that attitude, most advancements in human rights, animal rights, etc., would have never been achieved. You and I may not have the money, fame or power to really make a huge difference, but we can make little differences. Most people that know me will tell you how much I love animals... and that I do as much as I can to help them. The way I look at it is, I can't help all the animals in need. And it probably won't make much of a difference in the world if I just help one animal. But to that animal, it means the whole world. And in my life so far, I've help much more than just one animal. And I know there will be many more to come. You just have to do what you can. And to do what you feel is right. It's their world too. They have feelings too. And they deserve to live happy and fulfilling lives. |

But that's besides the point. As we've discussed earlier, the notion is that she is unaware of Vaseline's operations, as I'm sure most people don't know either. I didn't know this myself until you started this topic. Once it was brought to my attention I made a decision, and now I'm boycotting all Vaseline products for the rest of my life. Although this whole deal with Vaseline and the celebrities does do its share of advertising for them. It's really more about raising money for charity. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Hilary Duff, Jacqueline Bisset, Kim Raver, John Leguizamo, Minnie Driver, Dave Navarro and Regina King are also a part of it. The important thing right now is to make these celebrities aware of what's going on. Until we know that they know... there is nothing bad to be said about any of them. All they know is that they are raising money for a good cause. I don't think they are doing it to promote Vaseline. What they are doing it for is to raise money for The CSD (see here and here). This is where 100% of the money is going to. It may be possible that these celebrities aren't even being paid by Vaseline and that they just simply volunteered to help the cause. Do we know for sure that they are accepting money from Vaseline? These celebrities know they have the power to make a difference. And when somebody approaches them and asks them if they want to help raise money for certain organization, I think it's good that they are willing to help. It's not like Vaseline contacted Amanda and said, "Hey we are doing a new charity for The CSD, maybe you would like to help out... by the way, we test our products on animals." I'm 110% sure they left that last line out. So we can't get upset with any of them for doing this, like I said, all they know is that they are doing a good thing. All we can do is bring it to their attention. And PETA should be able to do that. Last edited by sparky; 02-16-2008 at 10:22 PM.. | |

The print ad I dont even think mentions the charity. I dont know if we should be upset at Amanda for this, they pay her to do a job, I dont think she has any support for the company or for animal testing. She was hired to do an advertisement as an actress and they probably tell her what to say, dont even know if she uses the product. Animal testing probably wasnt even brought up. She clearly likes animals, in the last photo set posted here she has a faux purse, and I have never seen her wear real fur, I think she said something once about never doing it. Im right with you, i think its ridiculous they should test creams and stuff on animals but its kind of unfair to attack Amanda about this. I really didnt know ether, I probably wouldnt know which products I buy are made by Ponds or Procter & Gamble. I didnt know Ponds made Vaseline until this thread. | Newbie | I agree with you. I do not think she knows anything about this. I feel that she would have turned it down if she did know. Her manager is the one to blame on this one.. Iam not trying to blame Amanda for this.. I just feel it is a bad move on her managements part to allow her to do this. There is no need to test beauty products on animals.. It is morally wrong, pure and simple. Their excuse that they only do it when the law insists is disgusting. They are still making millions of dollars off the suffering of animals for vanities sake. |

Amanda primarily supports children’s charities. Even though she likes animals, she and her team probably just dont have information on this or many other bad situations. Someone that tested on animals, a clothing designer that uses furs, food processor that inhumanly slaughters there animals, a product produced using child labor somewhere, a company that dumps its waste into a river.... |
