| Moderator ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | it will be just like the Hairspray Reviews Post http://media.www.studlife.com/media/...-2976804.shtml "Amanda Bynes is dazzling as always-quirky, fun and often times refreshingly eccentric; the movie may have been a complete failure without her." http://www.scrippsnews.com/node/26941 "For fans of Amanda Bynes, it may prove enchanting...Bynes is believable as the bright, down-to-earth and genuinely nice Sydney, who gets flustered only around the too-good-to-be-true Tyler (cute, smart, caring and available?). Sydney makes some mistakes (as do Bynes' makeup people), but she's fun and upbeat." http://thedistrictweekly.com/dwweb/?p=636 "Bynes is as cloying a heroine as you’d expect" http://www.orlandosentinel.com/enter...1=Submit+Query "But Bynes has double-take'd her way through weak material before. She's a gifted comedienne." (Negative Review of the movie though) http://www.bucketreviews.com/sydneywhite.html "Sydney White works best when it isn’t concerned with matters of plot. The most enjoyable moments of the film are those that allow Bynes free-range over loosely-defined material. The actress is effortlessly charming here and brings a much needed energy to the lead role, perfectly balancing the zany spunk of her character with a generally attractive and appealing quality that gains the sympathies of the audience. Bynes also has terrific chemistry with the cast of the seven dorks in the film; they share several scenes that had even me, the epitome of a cinematic cynic, laughing out loud. Not to mention, Bynes perfectly complements the evil of Paxton’s wickedly (and brilliantly) played Rachel." There are two bad reviews. Sometimes I don't understand how rated R movies like SuperBad and Knocked up make so much money and get Super good reviews. Their humor is always about sex and raunchiness. Remember when Amanda shown her disbelief that studios are beginning to make more movies like Borat which are pointless, but bring in alot of money. What's wrong with today's society. |

She’s just perky, quirky and cute enough to make us forgive the silly teen-comedy-ness of the film. As with most of her roles, there appears to be no stretching involved for Bynes, but it doesn’t really matter. She’s young enough to stick with what she does best for awhile without grating on anyone’s nerves." http://www.freetimes.com/stories/15/20/the-kong-show "Still, the movie has a winsome charm of its own, owing in no small part to Amanda Bynes, who is likeable as Sydney, a spunky plumber's daughter who earns a scholarship to her late mom's alma mater" http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...ney_white.html "Cleverly written and executed, "Sydney White" delivers much more than one might expect from what appears to be a featherweight Amanda Bynes comedy." (Actually Amanda assisted with the script. So she should get credit as well) http://s217445601.onlinehome.us/sydn...-movie-review/ "Amanda Bynes, who stars as Sydney, has always been recognized for her comedic talent, starting out in Nickelodeon’s variety shows “All That” and “The Amanda Show”. She’s known to make fun, family-friendly and lighthearted teen comedies that tend to be better than most of the drivel her Disney/Nickelodeon peers choose (read: Lindsay Lohan, Hillary Duff). And her choice in “Sydney White” deserves a bit of love for its funny fairy tale homage." Last edited by pranksalot; 09-19-2007 at 08:22 PM.. |

Bynes is growing up in front of our eyes, and her talent as a comedic actress has expanded by leaps and bounds. Surrounded by a well cast group of 'dorks' and sorority witches (led by Sara Paxton), as well as the requisite hottie (played by Matt Long), Bynes' solid performance as the nerdy girl who gets the guy makes this modern day take on Snow White a whole lot of fun." http://www.herald-dispatch.com/apps/...709200317/1006 "Bynes -- who was so fun in this summer's "Hairspray" -- turns in a charming, bubbly performance as Sydney. She displays deft comic timing when her character is forced to move in with her seven nerds, who all are never quite sure how to handle a girl who can throw a football harder than they can and knows all about comic books." Unfortunately I stumbled into an another review that says that Amanda is not funny at all. He probably likes brainless raunchy humor. He have never seen any other Amanda films and now does not believe she is funny like many other people have said in the past. Last edited by pranksalot; 09-20-2007 at 04:57 AM.. |

| Moderator ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Wow. I just read 2 more negative reviews. Some of these critics are harsh saying that the film is not original and that it is full of cliche. The movie does have some cliche, just because a movie reuses some ideas from other movies...it does not mean it is bad. Every movie borrows some ideas from some other sources. But at least this two reviews mention positively of Amanda. I'm kinda of suprise in the reviews that Amanda is receiving. I mean this is Amanda best movie in which she is the main star. I really thought this movie would get rave reviews like Mean Girls or Legally Blonde. It's really a great movie. This movie is not getting enough promotion and is opening in few theaters, I was hoping that alot of rave reviews will make up for it. At least this movie isn't being torn and trash up completely. |

We can thank Bynes for that. She doesn't have to carry this barely sustainable romantic comedy totally alone. Just almost... There's something about Bynes, though, that's special. I saw "Sydney White" in a large theater more than half full of girls in the young teen range. They seemed a little more entertained than I was, but not by much. The general consensus among the tweeners was that Bynes will be back soon in something more worthy of her comedic talent." http://www.catholicnews.com/data/movies/07mv183.htm "The clever re-imagining of a venerable fairy tale (the title is a tip-off as to which one), director Joe Nussbaum's film is for the most part an appealingly innocent romance. Bynes, who resembles Lindsay Lohan without the arrests, has one of those cheery personas that you can't help but like. There are some funny lines: "I don't speak Priss," Sydney tells the reprehensible Rachel." http://www.projo.com/movies/content/...9.1ef9d6a.html " the cast works wonders in bringing it to life. She still hasn't perfected her close-up reaction shots—subtlety is not her forte; wide-eyed wide eyes are—but how can one complain about a well-scrubbed young actress who does professional work and isn't out clubbing and going to rehab every few weeks?" After this I read like 5 negative reviews in a row. :( One reviewer gave this movie an F. That's is harsh. It makes me wonder if they were even watching the same movie I was. Why? http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=664802 "Sydney White" (former first name Snow), however, is surprisingly surprising. The filmmakers add wit and freshness to the comforting familiarity of the Disney version. And the heroine, played with tomboy spunkiness by Amanda Bynes, is nobody's little princess." http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl....entertainment (Negative Review though) "Amanda Bynes, a 21-year-old who's been in showbiz half her life, is an appealing young woman with genuine comic sense - she got nice notices for her recent work in the "Hairspray" movie. She’s also managed to do it without starring in a Disney movie...Although I kind of liked Bynes’ last film (She’s the Man) and thought she was terrific as Penny Pingleton in the recent Hairspray remake, I didn’t go into Sydney White with very high expectations. However, upon walking out of the theater, I had to admit that I enjoyed it. I think Amanda Bynes herself is a prime reason for my enjoyment. She has a very winning and warm personality (without being too bubbly) that lends itself nicely to these fluffier kinds of films. It’s no wonder that she has a developed something of a following—trust me, I was surrounded by them—since her hit Nickelodeon show at the beginning of the decade." http://www.kansascity.com/236/story/283376.html "This hilarious comedy definitely lives up to its Disney foundation...Filled with the same sad moments, entertaining incidents and all around fun for moviegoers of all ages, the film still has its own unique feel." http://www.nypost.com/seven/09212007...fairy_tale.htm "As she did in this summer's "Hairspray," Amanda Bynes makes a winsome loser playing Sydney" |

Maybe in a more negative side) "At 21, Bynes is already a veteran with a decade of television comedy on her résumé. Bynes has a natural, pop-eyed goofiness and relaxed comic timing which has been compared with that of Lucille Ball. In her movies, she has a tomboy image and a can-do, regular-girl appeal, which is commendable. The trouble is, as Sydney White again demonstrates, she just doesn't seem to have found a script (apart from her small role in Hairspray) that lives up to her comic potential." http://washingtontimes.com/article/2...109210030/1007 "Parents will adore the messages plastered all over "Sydney," from young women asserting their independence to the main character's inclusiveness." http://www.nwherald.com/articles/200...c842385189.txt "The young comic actress Amanda Bynes has such an easy-going, goofy disposition that her movies are enjoyable... the comedian has a way of making you laugh and not feeling embarrassed about it later." antihistamine http://www.nj.com/entertainment/tv/i...rite_camp.html ( 2 sided review) "Campus antics are mixed with hints of Grimm to create a remarkably derivative tale. Only the charm of the lead actress wards off the spell of stagnancy. Bynes, who hopefully won't surrender to Hollywood hedonism like some of her contemporaries, delivers a bright, quirky portrayal, playing a princess who favors flannel and sneakers over skirts and heels. Her pratfalls are precision, and she hits the right notes with her line readings. Too bad the script, by first-timer Chad Gomez Creasey, doesn't provide her with stronger comic material." http://movies.nytimes.com/2007/09/21....html?ref=arts "Perfectly slight, “Sydney White” is unlikely to muster the staying power of, say, “Revenge of the Nerds,” the raunchy underdog-power trailblazer from 1984. But Ms. Bynes, with her cherubic face, expressive eyes and comic timing, helps create a positive, pleasing diversion that caters to the geek in all of us." Bynes is a spirited comedienne and a bottomless fountain of bouncy energy: We haven't seen this much perkiness since the heyday of Sally Field. Indeed, Bynes makes Gidget look like Bela Lugosi. She deserves better than Sydney White." http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/review.php?ID=30571 "Painless, lighthearted material is what Amanda Bynes seems meant for during her cinema stint, chalking "Sydney" up as another pleasing comedy from the young star. Actually, Bynes isn't really the center of attention here (those dorks muscle in on her close-ups), but she's indicative of the entire film in the way she plays silly without winking and feels comfortable giving the supporting cast their shot at laughs. http://www.boxofficeprophets.com/col...columnID=10248 "Bynes is quite a likeable actress with energy to spare" http://jam.canoe.ca/Movies/Reviews/S...14243-sun.html (negative review) "Sydney White is as tolerable as it is -- you're more likely to gently nod off than storm out of the theatre in a rage -- is due largely to the presence of Amanda Bynes. She's an engaging starlet who needs to upgrade her choice of scripts in a hurry." http://www.thestar.com/Movies/MovieR...article/258901 (negative) "Apart from the fun of considering Amanda Bynes as the new Lindsay Lohan" http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm..._sydney21.html "A bizarrely tan Bynes is OK in the lead. No, I like her because over the course of a handful of films, she has shown herself to be equipped with a bright smile, a genuine sense of comic timing and the kind of effortlessly cheerful personality that can inspire even the most relentlessly cynical and hard-hearted of viewers to root for her to triumph against whatever candy-coated adversity she might find herself up against. This is not to say that such vehicles as “What A Girl Wants” and “She’s The Man” (I am deliberately leaving “Hairspray” out of the equation as that was clearly not designed as a vehicle for her, although her supporting turn as Penny Pingleton was one of that film’s true high points) are classics of the teen comedy genre but largely because of her considerable efforts, they have turned out to be far better than they might have been in the hands of the kind of ordinary starlet who is more concerned with looking pretty than in winning audiences over...I didn’t really mind the predictability so much because Bynes pretty much drags the entire enterprise over the finish line with her combination of grace, pluck and good humor–by most critical standards, this is a pretty dumb movie but thanks to her efforts, I was too busy being entertained to really mind that much...As I mentioned before, Amanda Bynes pretty much carries the entire movie on her shoulders with her undeniably winning performance–she knows how to pull off the physical comedy bits, she knows how to makes us feel badly for her when things aren’t going well without letting things fall into mawkishness and when she gets a good line to deliver, she has the kind of timing that allows her to knock it out of the park. As for the rest of the rest of the film, it has the cheerfully amiable spirit and rag-tag energy of one of those old knockabout musical-comedies from the 1940's that were never considered classics but which can be awfully fun to watch when you stumble upon them late at night on TCM." |

A veteran of television sitcoms ("What I Like About You," "The Amanda Show") and such other movies as "Hairspray" and "What a Girl Wants," she uses her natural appeal to nice advantage in "Sydney White."...Clearly, the target audience for "Sydney White" is young and female. I am neither, but I still enjoyed the movie. The screenwriters have been clever in integrating as many "Snow White" traditions as possible into the plot, plus there is Amanda Bynes. She is a perfect match for "Sydney White," making it her own fairy tale come true." http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/entert...9-21-0067.html "Someone worked hard in making "Sydney White." As a result, the film is smarter and funnier than one might expect...Amanda Bynes, who could be the next Lindsay Lohan (but in a good way), stars as Sydney White, a tomboy starting her first year of college...Bynes is more than pleasant and seems to be game, although the makeup people have distractingly given her more eye shadow and lip gloss than her tomboyish character would wear. But "Sydney White" is mostly a triumph for the writer, Creasey. He took a story about Snow White and turned it into a clever comedy about the Seven Dwarfs." http://www.reel.com/movie.asp?MID=14...ws&CID=13#tabs "Completely undemanding and entirely predictable, this Amanda Bynes vehicle, nevertheless, offers plenty of charm, a lot of laughs, and that rarest of commodities, a smart, independent, can-do heroine..." http://www.oregonlive.com/movies/ore...910.xml&coll=7 "Also, as the tomboyish Snow White stand-in, Amanda Bynes is just a smarter, livelier and funnier actress than her bubblegum peers (Hilary Duff, Sara Paxton, et al.)" |
