| Moderator ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | http://www.teenhollywood.com/d.asp?r=158831 The last time you might have seen Amanda Bynes, other than her cute performance as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray, she was playing a girl on campus pretending to be a dude in She's the Man. Well, the popular young actress is back in college again as a tomboy-ish girl trying to popularize seven nerds in Sydney White, a movie loosely based on the "Snow White" fairy tale. We always enjoy chatting with Amanda and this phone chat was no exception. It's like talking with a BFF. This time, she was in a car in New York on the way to the airport and apologized for drop outs while driving through tunnels. We dished on her affordable clothing line "Dear", how she feels about popularity contests, the fact that she considers herself a dork and would date a dork as long as he wasn't totally socially inept and other fun stuff, including her nailpolish color. Get ready for some gurltalk! TeenHollywood: Hi Amanda. Very cute movie. It reminded me of when I was in college. Amanda: Oh, thank you! Hey, I remember your voice. I've met you many times, right? TeenHollywood: Yep. I'm the funny redhead with short hair. Amanda: Yeah. I like you. I remember you. We talked for Hairspray recently... TeenHollywood: Thanks! In Sydney White, I was glad to see that, although you are playing a girl who does a man's job, you didn't dress totally like a boy at college; you wore cute tops etc. Was her look your decision and are some of the clothes from your clothing line 'Dear'? The star shirt from Amanda's 'Dear' collection Credit: Universal pictures Amanda: I wore one shirt from my line. It's a black t-shirt with stars, yellow stars. Other than that, it was basically the character. In my own life I like to wear dresses and skirts; a little bit more girly stuff and my character was much more tomboyish. TeenHollywood: Speaking of the clothing line, how hands on are you in the designs, the pricing [very reasonable] and where it's placed? Amanda: I'm very involved. I have nothing to do with the pricing. They had that going before I walked in. They have a very good moral way of selling clothes. They set them at reasonable prices. It's very cute, fashionable clothes for girls. As far as design-wise, I always wanted to be a fashion designer. I love drawing so I brought in a bunch of my sketches and they would coordinate with the designers and make it so it was a collaboration. TeenHollywood: Do you have a motormouth when you are nervous like Sydney does? Amanda: Well, I have a motormouth when I'm actually comfortable. When I'm comfortable with someone, I will talk forever. I think when I'm nervous, I get quiet, unlike Sydney. TeenHollywood: So how was working with cute Matt Long [who plays her handsome Prince in the movie]? Amanda: He was so sweet. He's such a nice guy and obviously sooo handsome so I had a great time working with him. TeenHollywood: Are you the kind of girl who is a leader; the type who has to speak out and right wrongs like Sydney does? Amanda: Yeah. I definitely speak up for things I believe in and I have no problem standing up to mean people. TeenHollywood: What about being one of the boys as far as hanging out with a group of guys? Is that comfortable for you? Amanda: Yeah. It is comfortable for me. I like being with guys because I think they're actually more relaxed than girls. When you are sitting with a bunch of girls, well, depending on if they're cool girls cuz that's different, sometimes there's more gossip going on. With guys, they don't gossip as much as girls. I like being with guys definitely. TeenHollywood: Everyone keeps talking about how you are all grown up now. Are you sick of that and just wish people would accept you as an adult actress? Amanda: I don't really mind if they mention changes because that's what I'm going through and I feel like Sydney White is set is college and that's more grown up. I'm happy to be doing what I'm doing and I have no problem with people asking me about that. TeenHollywood: For teens today, do you think all the electronic media [blackberries, cells, texting, internet] has helped or hindered socializing with peers and building relationships in person? it out Amanda!work Credit: Universal Pictures Amanda: I think it's helpful because, sometimes, when you are talking to a guy, you can be nervous up close and personal. I think, through e-mails and texting, it's a way to get to know each other and maybe even act more confident than you really are and that helps. By the time you meet them, you've already gotten to know that person. A lot of times you can't really be yourself with someone right off the bat because you're more nervous. TeenHollywood: So, it's like a screening process. If you can get along online or texting then that awkward part is out of the way. Amanda: Exactly. When it's safely done, I think it can be very good. TeenHollywood: In the movie, there is a website that rates who is hot and not at college. Do you think that's harmful? Amanda: I think that's harmful. It's definitely shown [in the film] that my character doesn't really care about it but Rachel Witchburn, the evil witch character, does care about it. I think that's a perfect example of why she and I don't get along. We wanted to really prove that there are those girls out there but you don't need to be part of that to succeed. TeenHollywood: When fans rush up to you, besides asking for autographs and pictures, what do they most want to know? Is it true love? Credit: Universal Pictures Amanda: They ask me what it was like working with Zac Ephron and a lot of people ask me have I ever met Zac Ephron. Uh, well, other than doing a whole movie with him, I'd say I've met him a few times. I only saw him every day. He's a sweet guy. Other than that, it's 'what's it like kissing Channing Tatum?', the guy from She's the Man. Those, I swear, are the most frequently-asked questions. It's mostly girls and they just wanna know. To that one, I say, 'It was very nice. He's a very nice guy'. With Zac I say 'he's a very sweet guy and I really did love working with him. He is genuinely a sweetheart'. TeenHollywood: This film is sort of 'revenge of the dorks' so do you consider yourself a dork and would you date a dork? Amanda: Yes, I do consider myself a dork, definitely. Growing up I had a huge collection of "Archie" comic books and I would definitely date a dork. I'm actually attracted to dorky guys. I find them really charming when they aren't dorky to the point of being socially awkward. I feel like charm is the most attractive quality. TeenHollywood: Where did you shoot the movie and did you and all the guys hang out off set? What did you do? Amanda: We shot in Orlando, Florida. We did hang out but, on this movie I worked a lot more than I did on Hairspray so I was tired on the weekends because I worked every day of the entire two and a half month shoot but we'd go out to dinner. We all really got along. Everybody was very funny and all the 'dorks' were really pretty cool. TeenHollywood: What is the one feature about yourself that you don't like? A behind-the-scenes glimpse of the making of Sydney White Credit: Universal pictures Amanda: I don't want to say because I really feel like you have to be blessed with what you have. I don't like to think about things I don't have. You shouldn't think of [whatever it is] as something you don't like. You should embrace it and start to like it. TeenHollywood: That's a healthy attitude. What artist or band are you listening to most right now? Amanda: I just listen to the radio. I like Gym Class Heroes, I like Rhianna, I like Chris Brown. Even with all her troubles, I like Amy Winehouse. I think she's got a great voice. I know she says she doesn't want to be a role model but she's a very talented singer. TeenHollywood: What's next for you? Amanda: Well, I'll mention one soon but I can't talk about it now. I've got a couple of movies coming up. [We've heard that she'll play Lady Godiva! But, that is not definite]. TeenHollywood: What director are you dying to work with? Amanda: Baz Luhrmann. I think he's so talented. I'm a big fan of his. TeenHollywood: Have you talked to Nikki Blonsky since Hairspray? Sydney White hits theaters Sept. 21st Credit: Universal pictures Amanda: Oh yeah. I love Nikki. We talk all the time. She is filming a movie called Harold in her hometown. She's doin' great. I'm really excited for her. TeenHollywood: What question has nobody asked you today that you wish they would ask? Amanda: Hummm, hard question. Well, nobody asked about my nailpolish. It's called "Wicked" and it's like a dark berry, crimsony, burgundy color. It's by Essie. I love it. TeenHollywood: What did you wear today for in-person interviews? Amanda: I had several different wardrobe changes. 'Dear' shirts and a couple of different dresses. At this point, Amanda goes into a tunnel, apologizes and we give up. It was fun chatting with her. That's so cool that Amanda still contacts with Nikki. Seriously who would do that? After finishing a movie with an actor or actress you just say farewell, Amanda obviously does not. lol Even the author of the interview heard about the lady Godiva rumor. I can't wait to hear what movie Amanda is going to work on next. |
