It took me five trys to make two posts this morning.
Change to less intrusive ads or lose even more posters than you already have!

Sorry you're having trouble with the ads. Can you give me more information about exactly what problem you're experiencing? Screen shots of the ads that are giving you trouble would be helpful. What exactly are the ads doing that you consider obtrusive?

I'm getting an illegal use of Shockwave Flash message pop up which closes Firefox... is that ad related?
Ironically just as I posted now, the screen froze and I have had to open a new window to edit.

1. Mouse-over activated ads, specifically the Radio-Disney banner at the top are intrusive. Others have commented on this specific ad or type of ad.
2. It took me five tries to make two posts this morning before I gave up in disgust. I suspect that an ad or ads are trying to refresh the page while I try to post and they are fighting for resources. Each time Internet Explorer reset with the “send report” message. This happens mainly at home but has also occurred at work where I have a faster Internet connection and different computer/os.
3. I realize that this site needs ad revenue to survive but it also needs members and staff.
4. I have had the page freeze as Jocasta has cited below also.

I've tried to install firefox adblock to get rid of it..

I know this is how FH is surviving...however...I agree with FIX, its annoying

Jo is correct. It appears that multiple calls are being made to Adobe Systems Shockwave Flash active-x add-in Flash10a.ocx by advertisements causing Fanhost and the browser to terminate. In Internet Explorer one can deactivate this active-x add-in, however the ads still try to access it, repeatedly, slowing down the response of the system. Such deactivation is also undesirable because other sites which use flash video such as YouTube and Movie List will not operate. I sincerely hope that the owner addresses this problem very soon.

Probably not unless you take out your frustrations by bouncing it off the nearest wall. However it may tax your sanity after you have restarted your browser for the umpteenth time.

Fanhost is so good to me.

It's because I'm Val and special at the same time.

But serious now, these problems never happened to me. Most of the times, I need to type my name and password two times (or refresh the page "F5") to log on Fanhost, but even this is not happening these days anymore. Weird huh?
I'll pay more attention and let you all know if happens to me.

Sometimes I read ads in portuguese here on Fanhost. It's very good of course, and I clicked in one of them once.

But to me, no pop up, no freezing screen. I think this is the main problem with Junior and Kate.

The crashing browsers and the obtrusive ads are really two separate issues. Lets try to deal with the crashing browser issue first.

Please check that:

Flash Player Is Updated. This page should show flash version 10,0,22,87. If it does not, then please go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ to upgrade.
You are running the latest version of your browser. Firefox 3.0.6 (go to Help > About Mozilla Firefox). If you need to update, select Help > Check For Updates (if you're running Firefox 3), or to upgrade from an earlier version go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/. For Internet Explorer, it should be version 7 (you can check by going to Help > About Internet Explorer). Make sure windows is up to date with the latest fixes. For Windows XP, using internet explorer go to http://update.microsoft.com and check for updates). For Windows Vista, type "Windows Update" into the start menu and run the program and check for updates.

It isn't normal for Flash to crash your browser no matter what the ad is.

For those of you who have crashing browsers, do you have Firefox add-ins installed? (Adblock, etc?). Go to Tools > Add Ons and try disabling all the extensions and restarting your browser. Does it still crash? Often, add-ons can cause instability in the browser. If disabling the add ons solves the problem, then re-enable them one by one until it starts crashing again. That way you can see which add-on is causing it.

Please let me know if this helps..
