| While I wouldn't normally discuss this on a public board, clearly he reached out to others on this thread to have them post about it, so I think he's waived his right to privacy on this issue. I'm going to respond here since you're asking and he's obviously aware you're asking. I really don't enjoy getting involved in this, but at this point I'm right here in the middle of it, so here we go .... He was unhappy with the moderation and decided the best way to resolve it would be to be to post signatures which compared the mods and forum admins to Communism and Hitler, rather than raising specific issues he was concerned about with admins. He was warned to change the signature, had a full day to do so, and he did not. When asked to discontinue his activities, he responded that he would instead escalate the posting of offensive signatures. Eventually an admin had to remove it. Obviously, I want the mods to be flexible and understanding of different personalities, and people are free to discuss topics of their choosing, but I don't expect the mods to tolerate users publicly slamming them in very offensive signature images, and I think a ban was justified here. The ban will automatically lift in 14 days, at which point he is welcome to return if he chooses. I hope that this will give him some time to cool off. In light of this incident, we will be modifying the 'infraction' system that comes with vbulletin to better provide a transparent escalation path for issues.... i.e. at a certain level of infractions, which we will establish and clearly post in the rules, a ban is automatically tripped (so there is no "what? why was I banned? I didn't see this coming, how could this happen?"). Not everyone is going to agree with the moderation policies at all times - but I do think people are doing their best. If anyone has specific concerns about specific actions of a moderator that they feel is inappropriate, I hope that they would bring it to my attention. But in this case, I haven't been shown anything to suggest that the mods involved did anything but enforce the rules, which are clearly posted for everyone to read... *Topic closed* Last edited by teenhollywood : 10-19-2007 at 02:51 AM. |
