Some new rules! - Everybody read

Fanhost has become very slow in the last few months. As in there aren't a lot of members that post. Me and Open32 have been thinking how to get Fanhost a bit more active again and we have come up with the following new rules.

1. Minimal amount of new posts per forum per month - From now on each forum will need to have at least 50 new posts per month in order to stay on Fanhost. The posts can't be from the same person, and it can't be spam.

2. More moderators - Right now not all forums have moderators. We would like to change that. So in the coming time Open32 and I will make people moderators who deserve it, and we'll remove moderators who are absent. Now, don't ask to become a moderator. Just show us you deserve to be a moderator by being active in the forum you want to moderate.

3. New forums - We would also like to add new forums. So keep requesting new forums in the appropriate threads and we will pick two new forums each month (it depends on the number of requests). They will first go into the trial category and if we feel that they are active enough, we will move them into the regular categories.

If anyone has any questions feel free to post them in this thread.

Bear in mind that not all forums appeal to everyone and that diversity may result in more hits on this site than number of posts by a select few. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is the number of hits per month that pay the bills, not the number of posts. I would encourage you to keep the diversity and to keep the rules to the bare minimum to maintain order.

I kinda agree with you FixR. we have a lot of lurkers here at fanhost every day who view this board. and I guess it´s also the season we have at the moment. it´s summer, so probably a lot of people/members are on holiday or something.

I also want to comment and do some observations.

Fanhost has days and days!
I said this many times in the past and I won't stop.
What is a message board?
Is a place to post messages in response to an article or online forum where replies are nested directly under it. These same messages are usually sorted within discussion categories, or topics inside of a forum, chosen by the moderator, or possibly the member.
And a forum? What is a forum?
Forums are a great way to meet people who share similar interests and to learn more about the topic you are interested in. They can be fun, educational and supportive.
In short, a forum is a pastime! To me became vicious.
But if the forum is a pastime, means that the member of the community is not obliged to stay online and post every day. This justifies what I'm saying with the proper Fanhost members. We have members joined in 2000, 2001, 2002 with 7, 8 and almost 9 years of fanhost with only 300, 400, 500 posts. Why? Because they do not have the habit of posting due to random reasons as, lack of time, family, work, and for them, one or two posts a week is enough. Are you understanding? In other words ... they are members? Yes, they are! We know them, they know us, but do not appear every day.

This was a decision done by one of the administrators because in the past, there was a big fight between the members to increase their post accounts and they were posting only bad things. So the administrator finished the post account. And do you wanna know something? We are feeling better without it. Ok, was an isolated case. Nothing to compare here. Relax!

I have a doubt:

What will happen to the forum that doesn't achieve the mark of posts? Will be deleted?

In the truth, I don't think that deleting and building forums will resolve this fanhost problem. But I'm with Junior. We are here to help Fanhost and I'll also think in something to help.

I don't think I have a lot of posters in the Keira Knightley section, but there are a TON of lurkers. Like it was said, you can see from the hit count. I post updates constantly and people do check them. I would be really upset if that section where to go. =/

I think deleting forums that are not that active with posts is just a way why people maybe would stop joining this forum. cause as mentioned before, we have tons of lurkers, some join, some don´t, or some just lurk for months or years (I did the same years ago) before they join.
I mean try to imagine: you are lurking a forum or more here who you are interested in, people don´t post much, but there are definitely news, but maybe they don´t reach the 50 posts a month or it´s just the same person, like in a way KeiraLover said, keeps it updated but there are no members who post but lurkers who check it out. but if the forum now gets deleted cause it doesn´t have those 50 posts a month, new people won´t join.
I think it shouldn´t be deleted right away or whatever would happen with a forum that doesn´t have that much posts, I think it should be watched what is happening in a longer time. if it stays the same like for maybe 3, 4, 5 months. if it´s the same.... well then there could be something done. but maybe it´s just one months not active cause there are no news, but another month there is more and it´s really active again.
I mean it´s usual in the celeb forums, sometimes it´s slow with news, which can be even over a few months, so there are probably less posts then, but then there will be tons of news again, so it will be really active.
I think that should be considered also maybe . (but that´s just my opinion)

but then I noticed that the new rules are helping to improve it...I think it's a good idea with the "mouthly min of posts"

Good deal, chief. Lets just hope the Men's forum survives. That place needs some testosterone boost. I think I'll hang around there more often, get some man-talk going.

If you're wanting to make more forums, how about some new forums for the shows that are coming back in full swing this fall, like The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Prison Break, The Office , and there's the return of 90210 in case the kiddies want to chat it up.

All I know is my book blog gets 99% of its daily hits from kids dying to talk about the Twilight series. See my stats below. Fan Forum has a forum for Twilight. I would suggest adding a new "Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer" forum to the movies section. I could help with the topics. The movie is coming out in December and I've read it gets the most hits on MTV.com(My blog post with just ONE trailer tease gets about 300-500 hits per day). I would add Robert Pattison and Kristen Stewart as seperate forums in starlets and stars or under the Twilight forum heading.

You guys would need to do some work to push this a little for SEO and such. Anyways, just my thoughts. Research a little, put Twilight or Stephenie Meyer in a keyword search optimizer and then view the results.

Maybe you and TPTB could be more Pro active.
Its been my exp. that whenever a new forum is requested , that request goes into a black hole of non response.
Janice its obvious you have access to HQ photos and events, Why dont you use that to support Cat in Stars or, any other forums? I dont see you in mine? Why? That can boost FHN.

I hate it when forums dissapear also but this was created to get people posting in the forums they like.

Really there are a few forums that need to go to make room for far more active forums like Hayden, it this doesnt work. There is a forum with 18 posts total since February, 4 of which are about this annoncment. The number 50 may still be evaluated, but Arielle, Mandy, Orlando, Jessica Biel, and Lacey are at the top of the chopping block.
