Hi all, We're moving the forums to a new server again - much more powerful - to try to to solve the "slow loading" issues and database errors that some people noticed earlier this week. The move will take place in about 70 minutes - at approximately 1am ET and could result in up to 30 minutes of downtime. The move requires a DNS change (the IP address of the server is changing), so it is possible that in some cases it may "appear" to be unavailable to you since your computer (or your ISP) have cached the old IP address. This problem will resolve itself within a few hours at most. I will be "locking" the old forum (on the old server) so that there is no "lost posts" by anyone still seeing the "old" version and posting on it. If, after 2am ET, you are still seeing the "locked" forum and not the active forum, I suggest that you reboot your computer so that it clears your DNS cache - this is the easiest way. If the problem still remains after a reboot, please be patient - this is probably because your ISP has cached the old domain record. It should update (at worst) within a few hours. If, after a few hours, you're still seeing the "old" forum (highly unlikely - but I know this happened to at least one poster last time we moved), I suggest you visit https://www.opendns.com/start and reconfigure your wireless router and/or computer to use OpenDNS instead of your ISP's DNS server - since your ISP's DNS server is misconfigured. We will also be enabling HTTP/gzip compression on the forums on the new server - which should make the pages download faster - particularly on the front page or on threads with a lot of content. This is especially true if you're on a slower connection such as dial-up or "lite" hi-speed cable/DSL connection. It is a well tested module for apache (mod_gzip), so I don't expect there to be any issues. Thanks for your understanding - we're trying to improve the Forum and make it as enjoyable as possible for everyone.

Just solved the technical issue on the other server.... wasn't as difficult as I had thought. Since the active user count on the forum at the moment is low, I'm moving ahead with the server migration now. If all goes well, see you all on the 'other side' in 10-15 mins.

Hi guys- I am working with tech support at our hosting company to solve an unusual error message that is popping up in the logs on the new server. It will require that they power down the server for about 10 mins sometime tonight. Just wanted to let everyone know in advance. Thanks Marc
