Dude, I just had a thought, maybe since Marc is up on his VB-fu he could try to do what Jeff couldn't. Maybe we could have both numbers, like:

Posts: 200
Archived Posts: 4,910

If I recall that idea was popular we just couldn't get it to work....

Marc, is there anyway of doing that?

That will still be a meaningless number.

I'd rather have a rubbish total that could be anything rather than a rubbish Archived Posts: 30 or whatever it may be.

The reason the posts weren't kept was because the archived numbers were rubbish. That hasn't changed, the archive numbers are still rubbish.

If there's going to be a post count it needs to reflect something otherwise just get rid of them completely.

Ohhh, okay, so if the old post counts are well and truly f*cked, why is there a discussion at all? Though mine appears to be correct, so I'm a little confused as to exactly what's wrong.

Maybe thats because there are still tons of the archives missing.

Delta Goodrem, Johnny Depp, Ashlee Simpson, Justin Timberlake, Charmed, CSI, Hayden Christensen, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen, Michelle Trachtenberg, alyson hannigan. That doesnt include the miscellaneous stuff.

^ And all of that is 2004-2005 stuff, stuff like Ashlee Simpson, Charmed, and Hayden Christensen where really recent and missing. Ashlee and Hayden where both on this new board software.

Sure, it could be done. But if people feel the numbers are inaccurate, then this wouldn't really help things.....

Backups were made of the old post counts before making the change. So, we can very easily roll back to the previous numbers if people would prefer. But you're right, if we do that, people should realize that the only direction post counts will go is down from where they are now.

Personally I don't care, it just seems totally pointless to have a number that has no accuracy and call it a post count. Maybe just set everyone to a start value of 20,000.

It'll still be meaningless but it's a nice big number so people will feel good about it.

I think now you have taken the time and effort to change everybodies post count you should leave it as it is.

If you change them again people won't know what's going on, so leave them and we can all get on with making Fanhost the very best place to visit on the net....

Post count situation is a waste of time and engergy. I prefer the forums start getting their logos, some of the old hacks being brought back and whatever else is planned.

I cant help but laugh how everyone is making such a big deal on something that isnt accurate anymore.

Wheres the posts from 2000-2002 huh?

I'm working on functionality to better streamline logo/color changes so that we don't have to manually edit templates for each forum every time (which causes big problems with upgrades of vBulletin as we then have to 'revert' to the standard template and re-do the logo changes for every forum... which I'd rather not do every few weeks or months...).

The new functionality will be available soon - hopefully later this week or early next week. Then we'll change out logos & add new ones for any mods that want it done on their forums.
