Wow. There's a lot going on in Fanhost! I have to say, I was pretty grumpy the last time we did a big change in Fanhost, but now I love it! And I would love to be able to read the stuff in the archives. I remember I was about half way through the Josh stuff when I lost access to it. I'm one of those people that likes to bring up really REALLY old topics though! I'll do my best not to. Thanks everybody! OOH! I'LL HAVE MORE STARS!!! Though my post count was messed before we changed the forum. butcha. MORE STARS!

EDIT:aww pooh. I knew my post number wasn't going up in the last forum. I got like a hundred more posts and I KNOW I posted more than that. oh well...

Thanks - that is great to hear. I can't please everyone all the time but I'm trying to help FanHost be the best it can be... fixing any outstanding issues with the forum software, making sure as much info is available as possible both to users and search engines so that we maximize traffic. With more activity on the boards, everyone wins.

I don't think the archive includes ALL old posts. Just a few years worth (and some of the posts were missing data - had invalid dates - etc, so I had to exclude those from the imports). Oh well, better some than none, right?

I think this kind of makes including the old posts meaningless. I know I was nearly 10k on the old board but including the old database seems to have made no difference at all to me.

Personally I don't worry much about the post count but I would think if it's something that people do watch they'd want it to be more than a random number.

Whatever you do get the archive threads out of Starlets, we got a nice system in place, I don't want people searching and bringing back the old threads.

I don't understand what you're asking. You don't want older posts in the starlets forum?

I can lock the old threads in that forum if you'd like. But it makes sense to have them accessible for searching, if people want to search for them .... There are a lot of photos etc in there..

Well, the goal is to have one thread per starlet, for numerous reasons, and the archives are obviously in conflict with that.

I understand wanting to have them accessible, but for a lot of threads it'll just be a rehashing of the same thing. When everything was wiped out for the new boards we just reposted what we could to make sure the forum had content, and since then still more of the older pics have been reposted. As for those threads without a new board counterpart, I kinda think the fact that no one made/requested such a thread speaks for itself.

Blackwolf and the other starlet regulars worked on on redoing our current starlets forum. I believe many of those old starlets threads are full of broken links and such and wont be usefull at all.

Thats one of the big things I dislike with the archive back. Most of the stuff is very dated and many links are broken and are of no value to the FH posters.

One thing I can say is all of our mods and regulars did a fine job of replenishing the forums with photos, up-to-date news and so on.

You know what, Marc? You're the new owner, it's your forum now. You know what you're doing and know what's good for this bulletin board. But I don't believe reseting all post counts would be good, just wouldn't make sense that everyone here being members for years have little post counts that wouldn't match up with the hundreds of thousands of post that exist now and in archives.

You and s-mods will just have to make adjustments along the way.

My 6,000+ post I've accumulated for the last 5 years are lost. I'm sure it's like that for many others. So let just continue where we're at. I donno. Seems like it doesn't matter what the numbers are. Looks like people want post counts shown since 2003.

Like most of us say: "Whatever."

My understanding is that the post counts have been updated based on the full database at the moment. So what you currently have is what you are going to get. That 6000+ is gone for you, I don't think my count changed at all, certainly didn't find the 10k or so of posts I had before the change. For some others they still exist, depends which forums people posted in and what didn't get lost. Going back to 2003 will just be a random number. I don't pay much attention to post counts but if it's there it might as well indicate something. :p
