In a report highlighting the "open carry" gun movement, KTVU's Lloyd LaCuesta interviewed locals who are hanging out in public, packing heat and exerting their Second Amendment right for all the world to see.

Advocates across the country are picnicking together, going to zoos, going to church and picking up trash. Most notably, supporters protested Obama this past summer. In the Bay area, David Julian, 27, and others are hanging out at a Cupertino Starbucks, sipping their Venti coffees with guns holstered to their hips.

Supporters, who appear to come from all backgrounds, also say they're toting firearms to educate others about guns and their constitutional right. They're doing it protect themselves. And they can do it legally, as Julian demonstrated in his YouTube video below, which shows two Santa Clara deputies checking Julian's gun.

You can openly carry a firearm in California, but as KTVU and the Los Angeles Times explain, the gun must be unloaded and holstered. The ammunition cannot be attached to the gun, said Sunnyvale Police Capt. Doug Moretto. Other rules include:

-- The weapon can be inspected, but there can be no search for the gun's serial number. The open carrier cannot be within 1,000 feet of a school, on the grounds of a college or university, or in government buildings or secure areas of airports (KTVU).

-- People with drug or violent crime convictions or mental disorders cannot open carry (KTVU).

-- In cities within the state, publicly displayed guns must not be loaded. In unincorporated areas, loaded guns can be carried openly unless a local ordinance prohibits it. (LA Times)

But U.S. laws vary across the U.S. The Times cites Utah's "two step" regulation.

Of course the open carry issue raises several concerns. Officers interviewed by KTVU point out that there's no telling if the gun is loaded and that a tense situation could turn violent.

You can watch the KTVU report here. For an overview of open carry regulations, check Opencarry.org. The SF-based Legal Community Against Violence has more on California gun laws.

Being a person who leans more towards the left, I'm in support for Open Carry in California. There are cases where a person finds they needs to defend themselves or in a robbery situation where an armed robber waves a gun around with intent to hurt others. A responsible gun owner carrying a firearm can take matters into his/her hands instead of either doing nothing or becoming a victim. The police can only re relied on when a crime has already occurred. A responsible gun owner can be relied on when a crime is being committed.

What I find absurd is that the weapon cannot be loaded. What's the point of having it unloaded if you have to take action in splits of a second? Can't ask the offender to wait while you load your gun.

"You stay up For 16 hours. We stay up for days on end. You take a warm shower to help you wake up, We go w/o for days. You complain of headaches and call in sick, we get shot at, others get hit, we keep moving forward. You talk about being w/ your buddies, we know we may never see ours ever again. You complain how hot it is, we wear heavy gear, not daring to take off our helmet to wipe our forehead. You get mad when your food order is wrong, we do not get to eat today. Your mad you got held up 5Min. Extra in class/work. we'd be held over an extra 2 Months. You rolled your eyes when your baby cries, he gets letters w/ pictures of his new baby and wonders If They'll ever meet. . ."
Remember to be grateful for all the things you Do Have!...
A special thanks & gratitude from me, to all the soldier's that have given their life's & sacrificed; to make the life's we have, possible!!!
The Manchester Mummy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_Mummy), Hannah Beswick...

The Manchester Mummy, Hannah Beswick (1688–1758), was a wealthy woman with a pathological fear of premature burial whose body was embalmed and kept above ground for over 100 years after her death. The "cold dark shadow of her mummy hung over Manchester in the middle of the eighteenth century", according to writer Edith Sitwell. The mid-18th century saw an upsurge in the public's fear of being mistakenly buried alive, and Beswick had seen one of her brothers show signs of life just as his coffin lid was about to be closed. Writing in 1895, the physician J. C. Ouseley claimed that as many as 2,700 people were buried prematurely each year in England and Wales. For more than 50 years Beswick's mummified body was kept in an old clock case in the home of her family physician, Dr Charles White, and periodically checked for signs of life. Eventually it was donated to the Museum of the Manchester Natural History Society, where it was put on display in the entrance hall. Beswick's home was converted into workers' tenements following her death; several of those living there claimed to have seen an apparition dressed in a black silk gown and a white cap, and described it as Hannah Beswick.
