OFFICIAL: “New Moon” breaks all-time midnight box office recordUPDATE 2:00 PM

Summit has announced that The Twilight Saga: New Moon has officially set a new all-time midnight box office record, taking in $26.27M from 3514 theaters.

This shatters The Dark Knight's $18.4M midnight debut for a 3-day weekend. It also easily surpasses the all-time record for midnight showings which was held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which took in $22.2M on a Tuesday night on its way to a 5-day weekend total of $158M. The Dark Knight went on to take in $67.17M that opening day, dropped 29.1% from Friday to Saturday to bring in another $47.65M, and ended with $43.6M on Sunday for an opening weekend total of $158.4M.

UPDATE 12:00 NOON:

Unofficial reports say The Twilight Saga: New Moon has shattered The Dark Knight's $18.4M midnight debut for a 3-day weekend. Sources put the total at $23-24M. This would also surpass Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, whose 5-day weekend began with $22.2M on a Tuesday night. Summit has not yet released official numbers.

UPDATE 8:00 AM:

The early word this Friday morning from industry sources is that The Twilight Saga: New Moon may be on its way to breaking the all-time midnight screening record set by The Dark Knight (for a 3-day weekend). That film grossed $18.4M from 3040 showings. It went on to take in $67.17M that opening day, dropped 29.1% from Friday to Saturday to bring in another $47.65M, and ended with $43.6M on Sunday for an opening weekend total of $158.4M.

In contrast, New Moon played 3514 midnight screenings last night, 474 more than The Dark Knight. This would certainly indicate that it's headed for a new midnight record as it only needs to break $18.4M to do so. It might also be on its way to an all-time opening day record, although the film plays at 4024 theaters this weekend vs. The Dark Knight's 4366 locations.

As I've been saying all week on my Twitter, though, the key to the total weekend box office will be the percentage drop (or increase) from Friday to Saturday. One year ago this weekend, Twilight dropped 40.8% from Friday to Saturday. As terrific as that film's opening day's numbers were, they didn't hold up. So that's the key to this weekend. No matter how well New Moon does today it won't matter if there's a precipitous decline tomorrow.

Reports from theaters all over the country indicate a mix of tweens and older women, with a decent amount of boys and older men. Males are the key to success for this film to overtake The Dark Knight. The all-time record for midnight showings is held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which took in $22.2M on a Tuesday night on its way to a 5-day weekend total of $158M.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 6:00 PM:

Summit's official weekend box office estimate is $85M. Most industry estimates are in agreement. Some Hollywood insiders say Summit is low-balling it and that the number could push $100M. My guess, which I posted on my Twitter on Tuesday, is a Friday take of $50M, a maximum 20% drop Friday-Saturday bringing in another $40M, and a $20M Sunday for a weekend total $110M (at least).

Iron Moon: Will New Moon beat Iron Man? That film took in $98.6M at 4154 theaters. It opened on a Thursday and earned $38.7M by Friday, increased 6% from Friday to Saturday with another $37.35M, and added $26M Sunday.

What to watch for: Thursday's midnight numbers. The last Harry Potter took in $22M on a Tuesday night/Wednesday morning to set the all-time record. If New Moon does more than that then a $100M+ weekend is a good bet. If my guess of $110M holds out, it would be the #7 all-time opening weekend. It has to top $102.75M to make the Top 10.

Movietickets.com has announced that New Moon is now their #1 advance ticket seller of all time, beating Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith as well as every film in the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings franchises. New Moon tickets now account for 94% of all online sales.

The movie is now playing in Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland, opens tomorrow in Argentina, Australia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Sweden, and Thailand, and opens Friday in Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, India, Norway, Turkey, and the UK. Oh, and the US.

UPDATE TUESDAY 6:00 PM:

The final theater count for The Twilight Saga: New Moon has just been released. The film will open at 4024 locations (much more than the previously estimated 3500+), with 3500 midnight shows and the Twilight reissue at 2057 theaters.

Congratulations Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Chris Weitz, Stephenie Meyer and rest of the fabulous cast and crew! WELL done! :)

It's not unusual for Donora native Kim Moses to have reflections of her hometown in the popular CBS-TV series, "Ghost Whisperer," produced by her and her husband, Ian Sander.
"There's never a shortage of ideas for themes or visual reminders," Moses has often said of Donora as a source of inspiration for the Sander/Moses production company's series, which airs locally 8 p.m. Fridays on KDKA-TV.
Another case in point evolved when Moses finished directing an episode of Ghost Whisperer that she says is a "very important show" for the series.
It took her back to Donora, the Irondale Hotel owned and operated by her late father, John Moses, and across the Monongahela River to Webster.
Episode 509, Lost in the Shadows, ratchets up the mythology of the series by introducing new elements of the spirit world when an angry young ghost convinces featured characters Melinda and Jim's beloved five-year-old son, Aiden, to vanish. Melinda is played by Jennifer Love Hewitt and her husband is portrayed by Pittsburgher David Conrad.
"While Aiden and the ghost take a haunted journey, Melinda and her family and friends - both the living and the dead - scramble to find her missing child," said Moses, a 1974 graduate of Monongahela Valley Catholic High School.
"I think the link between our development at ABC this season and this episode is that Ian and I use our personal insight, experiences and history to infuse everything we do."
Moses said the "powerfully emotional and frightening" script for Episode 509 was written by P.K. Simmonds and Laurie McCarthy. It's scheduled to air Friday.
"The interesting thing about it is that, when P.K. showed me the script, I was stunned at all the memories and emotion it brought up from when I lived in Donora," Moses said.
"I was six years old and our family was living at the Irondale when my little girlfriend convinced me that we should walk to her grandmother's house for a visit," she continued.
"So we set out from the hotel, which was located at Sixth Street and McKean Avenue, for the other end of town, heading toward Monongahela. My parents thought I was at her family's apartment and her parents thought we were at the Irondale, so no one missed us in the beginning."
Moses said she thought this adventure would be fine because "we grew up with so much trust back then ... no one locked their doors, everyone's kids went out to play all day without adult supervision, and everyone knew everyone else in Donora."
"My friend and I walked right down McKean Avenue, as I had done many times, all way to the (Donora-Webster) Bridge," Moses recalled. "Then we did something I had never done before - we crossed the bridge into Webster and continued up the road to Webster Hollow.
"We walked a long, long time and eventually, when it started to get dark, I realized we were very lost. I got very scared and wanted to go home but we no longer how to get there."
As the young girls rounded a bend in the road, Moses said, they saw an elderly woman going in the front door of her home.
"My first thought was that she reminded me of the witch in 'Hansel and Gretel,'" Moses said. "We were really frightened. And then, as she brought us into the house, she actually was baking cookies. I was terrified that she was going to toss in the piping hot, just like in the fair tale. Children's imaginations have a way of running wild, you know."
Those trepidations were resolved.
"It turns out that the woman was a lovely school teacher in the area and she comforted us," Moses said. "I was really crying by then, so the woman called my parents and asked them to come and pick us up. I was so thrilled to be back at the Irondale. I don't think I left the block for six months, which was fine with me because I realized it had everything I needed - Isaly's, the 5 &10 cent store, Zubrick's soda fountain and all the wonderful people who lived and worked there. It was paradise for a six-year-old."
Moses said that as she was preparing to direct the "Lost In The Shadows" episode, her journey to Webster "came flooding back to me."
"The images of feeling so tiny out in the world and everything looming so huge and unfamiliar are so powerful," she said poignantly. "I think they really translated into the show. It never ceases to amaze me how all roads in my life keep leading back to Donora. Lucky me!"
And lucky viewers.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Carrie Underwood has dated high-profile celebs ranging from Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo to “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford, but the country star says it’s NHL star boyfriend Mike Fisher that she’s stuck with the longest.

“[It’s been] close to a year now,” the former “American Idol” winner said during an appearance airing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday. “That’s the longest relationship I’ve had. I joke and say my dogs are the longest relationship ever.”

At first, she admitted, she was put off by the idea of dating a hockey player.

“We had a friend, one of my band members was trying to hook us up,” she said. “He was like, ‘I have this guy for you,’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s great. What does he do?’ ‘He plays hockey.’” Her next question? Whether or not he had his own teeth.

“No, but he’s got a really good dentist,” Carrie said her friend answered, adding that Mike’s Ottawa home was a bit far. “I love Canada, but that is a long distance relationship. “We see each other more than people think we see each other,” she explained. “We don’t go out publicly, we just do our thing.” However, while the stars are spending time together, don’t expect them to shack up any time soon. “No, call me old fashioned,” Carrie said. “The next guy I move in with will be my hubby. Whoever that is. I’m not saying it’s going to be him.”

Ellen had other plans for her, teasing Carrie that they were going to get married and have babies. “Why not? You have a calendar?” Carrie said. “We can just start filling in dates.”

Get ready to gush! America’s cutest country star and one of the most successful American Idol winners, Carrie Underwood, has a Christmas special all set for Fox this holiday season.

The variety show, called Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special, will combine singing, dancing, skits, and showcases. Performing alongside Underwood will be fellow Idol alum David Cook, country superstar Brad Paisley, Kristin Chenoweth, Christina Applegate, and the biggest draw of all: icon Dolly Parton. Twenty-something superstar Underwood shared which collaborations got her most excited with Zap2It.com. She said she’d never met country music legend Parton before they worked together on the special. “I was so excited to get to talk to her and obviously be able to sing with her,” Underwood said. “It was a special moment, a dream come true.”

“When Dolly’s there, you step out of the spotlight and let her do her thing,” she wisely concluded.

Equally enjoyable was the fabulous blond triple bill of Underwood, Chenoweth, and Applegate. “They both have great comedic timing; they know what they’re doing,” Underwood said of the actresses, who’ve both starred on Broadway. “We ended up doing a medley of sorts, throwback songs, the ‘50s-’60s vibe with matching dresses. It was lot of fun being around them. They were willing to do whatever we needed them to do. We had fun together.”

In a report highlighting the "open carry" gun movement, KTVU's Lloyd LaCuesta interviewed locals who are hanging out in public, packing heat and exerting their Second Amendment right for all the world to see.

Advocates across the country are picnicking together, going to zoos, going to church and picking up trash. Most notably, supporters protested Obama this past summer. In the Bay area, David Julian, 27, and others are hanging out at a Cupertino Starbucks, sipping their Venti coffees with guns holstered to their hips.

Supporters, who appear to come from all backgrounds, also say they're toting firearms to educate others about guns and their constitutional right. They're doing it protect themselves. And they can do it legally, as Julian demonstrated in his YouTube video below, which shows two Santa Clara deputies checking Julian's gun.

You can openly carry a firearm in California, but as KTVU and the Los Angeles Times explain, the gun must be unloaded and holstered. The ammunition cannot be attached to the gun, said Sunnyvale Police Capt. Doug Moretto. Other rules include:

-- The weapon can be inspected, but there can be no search for the gun's serial number. The open carrier cannot be within 1,000 feet of a school, on the grounds of a college or university, or in government buildings or secure areas of airports (KTVU).

-- People with drug or violent crime convictions or mental disorders cannot open carry (KTVU).

-- In cities within the state, publicly displayed guns must not be loaded. In unincorporated areas, loaded guns can be carried openly unless a local ordinance prohibits it. (LA Times)

But U.S. laws vary across the U.S. The Times cites Utah's "two step" regulation.

Of course the open carry issue raises several concerns. Officers interviewed by KTVU point out that there's no telling if the gun is loaded and that a tense situation could turn violent.

You can watch the KTVU report here. For an overview of open carry regulations, check Opencarry.org. The SF-based Legal Community Against Violence has more on California gun laws.

Being a person who leans more towards the left, I'm in support for Open Carry in California. There are cases where a person finds they needs to defend themselves or in a robbery situation where an armed robber waves a gun around with intent to hurt others. A responsible gun owner carrying a firearm can take matters into his/her hands instead of either doing nothing or becoming a victim. The police can only re relied on when a crime has already occurred. A responsible gun owner can be relied on when a crime is being committed.

What I find absurd is that the weapon cannot be loaded. What's the point of having it unloaded if you have to take action in splits of a second? Can't ask the offender to wait while you load your gun.

A teaser video

This is too friggin' funny. While Robert Pattinson taped a segment for the The Ellen DeGeneres Show (airing Friday), he asked a fan to strip off her clothes. And she did!

"I was doing a preinterview for this [show], and I immediately regretted saying that," the awkwardly adorable R.Pattz says. "I sound like I'm actually just abusing my position.

"It was after a period of signing 500 signatures, and one of [the fans] just came up. You kind of get 10 seconds with each person and you never really say anything, and I kind of got bored of saying, 'Hey, how are you doing?' And [the fan] said in her 10 seconds, 'What can I do to get your attention?' I was like, 'Um, just take your clothes off.' And she stood there and frantically started taking her clothes off and got dragged out of the room by security. I never felt more terrible."

This makes us love Rob 10 times more! Perverted, huh? We would start messing with fans, too, after a while. Actually, we're shocked R.Pattz hasn't done it more. He has so much power over these helpless ones! Might as well make it entertaining.

Alright ladies! :antlers: There is a "Twilight-Special" in the German magazine called 'GALA'. It's a gossip-mag, but it has a better reputation than InTouch, OK!, STAR and so on. I scanned the Twilight-pages (including those of Rob), but I only translated the Rob-interview... the rest is more gossip we already read/heard so often, about Kris & Rob being (presumably) a couple... I think that should be alright. ^^
Anyway... I hope you'll enjoy it! :clown:
Me ? Being cool? That’s just a façade!“
In this exclusive interview with GALA, hearttrob Robert Pattinson reveals how his life is really looking like.

During his stay in Munich last Saturday, it is said that he changed hotels four times. The reason: Confusing his fans who were hunting him, hoping to see Robert Pattinson, the object of their desire, close and in person.
GALA met the 23-year-old for an exlusive inside the hotel “George“. When he enters the suite, his handshake is firm. He is looking casual in his black jeans, washed-out shirt and his little beard. He seems to be exhausted, not really surprising as he has already been touring for the past three weeks to promote his movie “New Moon“. Suddenly his stomach is rumbling, sexy Rob smiles in a disarming way and apologises, saying that he wouldn’t have had enough time to eat. And then it’s too late: We are ‘robsessed’....
Do you actually know where you are right now?
-(laughing) In Munich, right? I woke up yesterday and I actually did not recall that I was in Madrid. Strange feeling.

You spend a lot of time in hotels. Is there anything you always take with you? A talisman?
-Well I do not want to come along as a pompous person but I really like to take my guitar everywhere I am. And a cap. I cannot sleep in airplanes; I have the feeling that people are staring at me when I drift off. Hence I always pull my cap down over my face, and then it’s alright.

Vampire Edward Cullen, whom you portray after “Twilight“ in “New Moon“ again, is extremely powerful, can read other people’s thoughts and just does not get old. Which of these traits would you like to have?
-I really do not want to know what the others think about me. (laughing) And well, being a teenager is not really my cup of tea either. I’d go for having strength which I am not aware of. But then I guess people would ask me for help constantly. No, I am quite content with being a normal mortal person.

If you were able to transform yourself – what would you be right now in this moment?
-A dog, I think. A dog’s lifestyle has always been fascinating me: Just sitting around, sleeping, being caressed, eating and sometimes going out for a walk. That’s nice! There is quite a boundary between me and dogs.

You are being compared with movie icons such as James Dean, Hugh Grant and Jude Law. Whom do you like best?
-James Dean of course, he is simply playing in a different league. Oddly enough I feel uncomfortable when I am being compared with British actors. I don’t know why, but it’s just like that.

Would you like to play James Dean?
-Of course, but I don’t know if I could. I think James Franco did a great job in “James Dean“.

You spend a lot of time in America, travel a lot around the world. Do you miss London?
-Yes. There I had the time of my life. I just had a little flat in SoHo, but my friends were always there. Often 5, 6 people stayed over night. It felt so wonderfully inconvenient. That’s the way of life I always wanted for myself. A bit crazy, but appropriate for a young actor. At night we often made music on the roof. A lot of my friends are artists and worked in my apartment. They were painting pictures, sometimes the computer-keyboard made some noise and in the background there was music.

Today you can afford a mansion, not only in London, though. “Twilight“ was a gigantic success and for “New Moon“ you received around 8 million €. What kind of luxury did you buy?
-Normally I am modest, but after “Twilight“ I bought a wicked electric guitar from 1951. That was the first time in my life when I felt actually decadent. Besides that, I do not really need luxury. Just look at me – I wear the same clothes almost every day.

You mentioned guitars twice so far; music seems to be an important part of your life. On the “Twilight“-soundtrack we can find two of your songs. Is there anyone with whom you’d like to ‘rock’ one day?
-I’d really love to do something together with D’Angelo. He’s a great R’n’B-singer. He hasn’t done anything recently, but his music is incredible. And then there is this great blues singer, Susan Tedeschi.

If you were able to choose: Where would you like to wake up tomorrow morning?
-In my own house in London. I was there last week, maybe for 16 hours. The first time at home after 11 months. I met my friends whom I haven’t seen for one year. And my parents and sisters. It was incredibly tough that I had to leave them again after such a short time.

What would you want to do if you were not an actor?
-I’d like to be a music producer. That would be the ideal job for me. Or I’d write something. Either way, doing something creative. Maybe even a stock broker. I like everything that’s hectical. And I would want to plan my timetable on my own. I don’t like it when people tell me when I have to work.

You’ve been working for two years now, almost nonstop, without much leisure time. Where do you relax?
-Sometims it is relaxing to do movies. Like in “New Moon“. I felt free and very creative, and that was fun. But any other than that? I would like to play soccer, but I normally suck at sports. Therefore I have to go to the fitness studio at least at some time.

How did you get your muscles for “New Moon“?
I boxed a lot. It’s great; not only your body is changing but also your posture and the way you think. Even if you are just walking down the street you suddenly have a different appearance because you do not feel that vulnerable anymore. That’s why I chose this kind of sport.

It has been said that you will play in the film adaption “Bel Ami“, together with Nicole Kidman.
-It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s looking good that she’ll be part of the movie. I’m convinced that it will be a nice film. I look forward to it because it is so different from everything I have done so far. I’m really keen on this because it’s a dark, gloomy movie. My only worry is that people do not want to see me in roles outside “Twilight“.

Are you sometimes surprised about the huge success of “Twilight“?
-I seem to appear cool on the outside, but I can tell you: That’s just a façade.

What do you miss most of your old life?
-Walking around carefree through large cities. I love travelling, getting to know their metropoles and inhabitants. I’ve been living in London for such a long time; life is pulsating there 24/7. These days I cannot go anywhere without having the feeling to be observed constantly. And I can tell you: I do not like this feeling.

Are there any days on which you think that you should have rejected this role?
-No, although it brought negative aspects apart from the positive. Nevertheless I never thought like: “Oh, I wish I would have never accepted this role.“ It would be useless anyway because it is already too late. By the same token I am not like “I am so happy; I’ve never felt better.“ Particularly when I think about how I began and all that.

And how was this?
-Being an unemployed actor is annoying: Always going to different auditions and never getting the role. Either you are not popular enough or you reject the role because the payment is not good enough so you couldn’t live from it. And suddenly you are so popular and you can choose your roles.

Which sounds great...
-On the one hand it is, but on the other hand the pressure is increasing. The producers expect that my name will allure the people to go to the cinema so that the producers will make enough profit. And while you are not on-screen, everyone expects that you are behaving like a star. It’s really crazy if you suddenly have to reject jobs because the movie company cannot afford it to hire bodyguards (making sure that shooting the movie will not be interrupted) because that would expire the film budget.
