I used to have my own little garden, never dried anything.

Chives dont need dehydrating, sometimes they sell them in a pot with dirt right at the grocery store, and you can just bite them right from there, no need for cooking or anything.

Saffron is expensive.

I've grown herbs but never dried them, I just use them fresh from the yard. Basil is he best like that. Chives are always available and cheap here, I'll send ya some.

Some people I know who bushwalk know of others with food dehydrators. They are apparently expensive but work really well and can dehydrate anything. Not just herbs, but you can suck the water out of a full meal and rehydrate it later.
