Default There's No Place Like Home, There's No Place Like Home........

But how to decorate it? My house is a hell hole right now, but I'm considering getting off my ass and making it look decent. This has me thinking about decorating styles, etc. I'm just gonna be using the crap I've collected over time, so it'll be mostly asian style stuff with an eclectic bohemian look. Anywho! What do you like? If money was no object, what would you do?

Yep, this is another "taking feminism back 30 years!" thread brought to you by MissyO.

Men like interior decoration too. (And I'll think about the question later).

If money was no object.....*sigh*

I have pretty eclectic taste as well. I like big heavy pieces of furniture, straight lines, nothing overly detailed or fussy. Solid wood, preferably dark like mahogony. I think drapes are really pretty, thin silk ones. I like lots of windows though so if I had tons of money I would have the whole backside of my house with as much glass as possible opening up into a nice outdoor living room, fireplace , bar , and a beautiful dark blue pool. I really like the refined rustic look, so I would have the house be a mix of Spanish and French country architecture. Lots of exposed brick and wooden beams, arched entryways asnd art. Lots and lots of art - everywhere -in everyroom. All different types, mostly paintings but also photography, pottery etc. Also, I would need a library with floor to ceiling bookshelves, stuffed full of books. I would have bookshelves all throughout the house. I like chairs with ottomans, you need to be able put your feet up. I love old classic quilts, monochromatic ones mostly, so I'd collect a bunch of those. Big huge kitchen -

*smack* stop dreaming and get a job.

I love the minimalistic yet feminine style. I want a funkis house, so I want something that goes with it. I'd probably have all white/cappuccino walls, walnut colours mixed with some strong red or purple that would pop. I find it very hard to put up art and stuff. I think every room needs pictures or art on the walls. I just don't want any of it to be "too much" cause I love furniture that are pieces of art in themselves. So yeah, a modern, minimalistic, feminine funkis.

And I'm really starting to love Norwegian furniture design. It's been looking really good lately. NorwaySays and Inside Norway both have some impressive stuff. I'd probably buy a lot of their stuff if I had the money.

^ I dunno. I was deeply impressed by Cat's love of furniture as art. I completely agree.
