I talked to a friend recently for about 6 hours but then she was in a bad way... but did it make me feel better too(important in some way?) thinking I might have helped her?

Most likely. Although I personally couldn't do a 6 hour misery call. That shlt would kill me.

I think after 15 minutes I'd just switch off and start doing something else, throwing in the occasional "uh huh" and "yeah" and "no, I'm still listening" every now and again to imply I was paying attention.

Nah, that wasn't a misery call so I paid attention. And the 6 hour call the other night, well not sure how much attention I paid but that was because I was under the influence.

I've had many a drunken phone call, both as being drunk myself and having the other person drunk.
Easily some of the funniest calls I've ever had. I can see how you could stretch that out to 6 hours without getting bored.
