| Perennially Disgruntled ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I was thinking the other day how damn fearless I was as a kid, and wondering where that went. What sparked was remembering how I used to virtually live on roof-tops as a kid. My roof, the neighbours roof, your roof, any roof would do. I can't even begin to imagine how the hell I could do that now. What was some of the stuff you used to get up to? And if you're scared of it now, do you miss it? I came within an inch of getting up on that damn roof yesterday......... |

I have a flat roof though so it's a little safer. I want to eventually turn it into a huge decked area. I do use a ladder now to get onto it though. I had no fear of falling as a kid. I liked climbing trees, monkey bars or balancing on narrow walls. Now the idea of falling includes the concept of getting hurt. |

| I was a very safe child. Now I am fearless. I knew this guy Max who used to jump rooftops. He had all these videos of him doing it. Then at school we made him use the chair dolly to jump from one counter to the other like he was on a skateboard, and it nearly killed him because it didn't work. Oh well. Now he has the job I had two years ago at the grocery store. Good times, Max, good times. |

I had it down to a fine art when I was 8. I also once tied skipping ropes in a line from the top of the climbing frame to the top of the swing to see if I could tightrope walk (I blame Blue Peter) and as soon as I started out I flipped 180 and landed on my head. Hm.. I may start another thread about injuries and scars... that's always a fun convo ![]() |

That was the best fun. Ooooh, and hauling yourself up onto the monkey bars monkey style. You know grab the bar then hoist your legs over really fast then swing on there. Shlt, that was fan-f*cking-tastic fun. |

Damn, I never got to climb on roofs! Guess there's a bad side to staying in an apartment. I climbed up everything else I could, though. I used to climb to the top of lampposts, and my mum would get all worried because she thought the thing would snap in half. I dunno why, it was made of metal ![]() Well. I used to get into fights but I don't now because I know I'll get in trouble. Does that count? | |

It probably wasn't as long or steep as I remember it, but as a little kid it was huge. When you ran down it the steepness just meant you'd be going faster and faster and out of control. To stop at the bottom there was a fence that you'd just crash full speed in to. |
