I'd suggest sending him an email saying you don't want to keep in touch with him and more and you don't want him contacting you. Something short, unemotional and to the point:

"Dear .......

I don't want to continue having contact with you. Please do not try contacting me again by email or any other means."

Don't give reasons because then he can argue that it's not like that, or that he won't do whatever it is any more. Don't leave room for any out, that's what you want and therefore that's what you expect. If he replies, which he no doubt will, then ignore it, don't reply. Keep a copy of the email selling him to sod off and any replies. Then you have something to work with if it continues.

I had a guy in real life who wouldn't take no for an answer and insisted he'd turn me around and I'd go out with him. Being in real life he'd show up from time to time at my door. I don't think he was dangerous, but it was still creepy as hell. It got to a point where I had to stop trying to be gentle with him and told him I didn't want to speak to him again and he had the sense to go away.

This is all excellent advice. Thanks. My only problem is that i dn't have any proof it's him. No dubious phone calls today so hopefully it's blown over.

Do you have any reason or real desire to keep in touch with him? You only need proof if you accusing him of something. Not wanting to talk to him is just personal preference.

Nope, no desire at all. I'd just feel bad sending an email as blunt as that to a guy if it's not him. But that's my problem, I'm too soft. I need to turn myself into a hard faced ***** I guess.

Just think about the roses and not taking no for an answer. Even if he's not the caller, it sounds like he's been overly pushy.

I think it's over though. A mutual friend dropped into conversation with him that I'd had this call and that my employers had taken it so seriously they have spoken with the police and I've heard nothing from him since.

A hard lesson in learning not to trust people online I guess :/

That's good that it looks to have stopped. Sounds like you were right about the source. People online are just as trustworthy and untrustworthy as people in the real world. The only difference is it's easier to lie online since the body language etc isn't there.

Very true.

The amount of times I've had msn conversations with good friends go awry because you can't hear the intonation in someone's voice, or see the smile as they 'say' it, it's very easy for words on a screen to be misinterpreted.

So true and imagine how bad things can get for young kids/teens ... I've talked to my daughter about how easily things can go awry.

But it's good you're free of these annoying calls and any worries you might have had.
